Comments (6)It CAN be done, but that doesn't mean it SHOULD be done. They do make covers that can go right over the present drain cover, and then you can tile right over its flange, and that's what holds it down. You first need to make sure there's no foreign material on the tile-- no soap scum, no body oils, no nothing. Comments (2)That happened at my sister’s house. It wasn’t every time, but totally random. Finally discovered the spout had not been caulked or silicones by the plumber. Leaking depended on where exactly the bather stood and splashed water on the wall. Silicone around the faucet/tile meeting has solved the problem. Comments (11)Consider before you make a change that glass shower doors have to be wiped down each time, and with lots of boys taking showers, it can look bad in a hurry if they don't want to do that. A full shower doesn't really give them more space than stepping into a tub. I would just replace the tile around the tub with a larger tile so you have less grout.
