Thanks for the response. The installer is very good, experienced, and will use a board over the installation, so the decking will not catch fire. I am confident that he will do terminations and seams well. My cheif concern is how a torch down (modified bitumen) roof will work in this type of installation where there could be some small puddles forming (about 1/8 inch deep)? Renovator, you are correct that PVC would perform better and last longer. However, it is more than twice the price AND most local roofers don't offer it. For the contractos that do offer it, I have no information on their work quality.

Hi Telly. I'm sure you will receive many recommendations but it seems I am first. We had a metal roof installed about 6 months ago and we are happy as can be. I don't know the true definition of a farmers porch but for our design I am speaking about a front entry area with a covered roof - the roof for the covered deck/ entry area has a much shallower pitch than the rest of the house - as does the carport which is attached to a side hitch garage. The two roofs, over the front entry (farmers porch) and carport are 3.5 / 12 pitch ... -and both face the street.

What type metal roof? Is it prefinished? Why did he paint it? What was his reasoning when you asked him? Is this new construction?
