Comments (5)Thanks for the replies. It is possible a cat could get in, but I really doubt it. My dog does a pretty good job of keeping them out of the yard, and I have never seen a mouse anywhere on my property. Eibren mentioned the rain... it has rained more than usual here, but here in the desert any rain is more than usual. I have been watering them, can excess water cause this? Do they like to be fairly dry? Stakes are a good idea, I just worry about damaging the crowns - they are about 6 inches deep, so the stake would have to be pretty shallow. What about fertilizer? Is it a good idea or bad idea? I'm afraid I'd cause them to grow even taller and be more likely to break. Thanks again for the help....See MoreHomesteading Postings
Comments (4)I have been reading... but new, and didn't want to "pop my head above the cornrows"... I am moving next month into my test version of homesteading. It has been my dream for years... but I move every few years to a new state usually, at least a new town, and can't seem to get settled... but soon. anyway... my new landlord is going to let me do what I want, so I am designing a HUGE garden designed around a grill area... with a greenhouse on one end and my chicken coop and run at the other. I am getting a milk cow once I learn more about them and a pig... i want them to "graze" together, and a donkey to protect them. Oh, and I want to get a llama or alpaca, and learn to spin. I learned to knit last OCT, I just made my first real butter, and planning on cheese and canning soon too... Any tips on planning a garden to support 2 people for the whole year? I am a begginner as I said, and starting to feel somewhat overwhelmed with all the book stuff... just going to jump in head first like always... :) Tell us about yours......See MoreRe: disease identification posted by Bella_24
Comments (1)Bella: Some of my Red Brandwines have the same problem and I just keep cutting the dead yellow branches off. Mine also is at the bottom of my plants. And I also have flowers and fruits on mine. I haven't posted the problem here because I have so many other, seemingly more serious problems, with my other tomato plants and did not want to overwhelm this site with different photos of different problems. I will be interested if someone replies to your post, and maybe I can solve my problem too. And we have had real wet weather here in Georgia, all spring. Have not had to water but twice since the beginning of spring. Good Luck, Sheila...See MoreLast thing before the CO - Help please
Comments (5)I'm I not understanding the question? The Deck is 12 feet off of the ground and the BI is asking for Balusters (Railing)? Code usually requires a railing if the deck is over 30 inches off of the ground. The BI is not being demanding he's enforcing building code. But yes balusters usually are not to exceed 4 inches apart. The code here has changed so that the balusters must be verticle, and not horizontal (like a ladder) so that children cannot climb up it....See Morewhitewatervol (Z 8a/7b Upstate SC)
