Stacked Washer and Dryer Question

We have a fairly small walk in laundry closet. Right now there is a utility sink on the left, then washer and dryer on pedestals. There is no other room width wise in the space. Our 10 yr old machines are ready to be replaced (dryer issue). If I get a stacked LG full size front loader pair do the machines have to go where the washer was or can they be where the dryer was? I am trying to figure out if I want pedestals again or maybe a stacked unit with storage shelves in the extra space.

It depends on where your water faucets (to/from the washing machine) are -- but generally, if you can connect them, you should be able to move them 3 or 4 feet without much function loss. Of course, you might see the connection hoses if you do.

Whether they are stacked or not, the dryer still needs attached to the vent & washer still needs attached to the hoses and a drain.

There may be "Universal" stacking kits but you would have to know what washer you'll be purchasing then see if there's a match to stack it with a miss matched dryer. It's usually recommended that the washer and dryer match as the pieces that connect the two fit together.

Thanks - There appears to be options to side vent. I'm worried that 7" on the side is not enough as the dryer my parents have sticks out 9" when you take into account how much the pipe protrudes from the side, and the width of the elbow. Going out the back worries me because according to the calculations, I only have 4.25" of space. The install guide says i need at least 5". I guess a periscope would work, but i read that its a less than ideal solution as it can restrict air flow I really dont want to buy these machines and then realize they dont fit. I guess in the worse situation, i can cut out some of the drywall to make room for the pipes. It would get hidden anyways

You should ask this question at www.automaticwasher.org. Those guys collect and restore antique washers and dryers. They will be able to advise you whether or not is is worth repairing or replacing your set. They are very knowledgeable.

I recently saw a laundry hint for those with a front load washer and pets which can have issues with pet hair (and I'm assuming horse hair would fall into the category). The hint was to put the garments you intend to wash in the dryer with a dryer sheet and tumble on air fluff for about 20 minutes or so to get as much loose hair off the garments and caught by the dryer's lint filter before you put the garments in the washer to wash. Haven't had an opportunity to try this out yet, but I will. I have a front loader and will eventually have several pets in my house.
