Layout Help - Kitchen/Floor-plan Remodel
Comments (25)KathyNY76, We looked at the option of a longer island and would love to have been able to do that. The biggest issue the width of the kitchen. If you look at GreenDesigns drawing, the door that swings open would actually only leave a few inches of space between the door and island. The current island is only 30" from the base cabinets as it stands now, hence why we are considering eliminating it. The issue is the drawings I posted show a little more room width wise than what is actually there. My apologizes for this. For a better sense of what I am referring to, here are a few pics reposted. This is facing the wall where the peninsula is shown in the drawings. The wall is not load bearing. This is facing the same wall from the kitchen. There is currently 30" of space between bottom cabinets and island. This is facing in opposite direction. We usually use this door to come into the house. So given the above, any changes in opinion?...See MoreKitchen remodel layout help
Comments (5)Sorry - I was never able to get the photos to post. The nook has two windows with a door in the middle, and the windows are tall an narrow - 10" off the floor. The opening near A is a doorway connecting the kitchen and dining room. Any advice on how to get photos to post would be great! I've tried re-saving them at a lower resolution but even then the site crashes when I try to add to a comment......See MoreHelp with kitchen complete kitchen remodel plan
Comments (8)Thanks. We do spend a lot of time in the family room. That was my first thought actually of opening that wall. The initial problem with that wall between the family room and the kitchen is that it is a load bearing wall. The living room we use as more of a formal sitting room if we have friends over. My wife also has her desk there. My wife has also thought about making the living room the dining room. Personally I think that is a waste of space but am open to being convinced otherwise. My wife and I would like to have more of an open floor plan. Thus thinking of combining the kitchen and dining room into one room. We eat 99% of our meals at the dining room table, so the table would have to fit into the larger kitchen design concept. I would like to incorporate kitchen and eating together. To me the difficult part is all the doors in the kitchen... the sliding doors to outside, the family room door, hall door and basement door....See MoreHelp! Comments (4)I think you need a kitchen designer. It is really hard to tell what is going on without a plan drawn to scale. Option one has no counter space on either side of the refridgerator. I think you would be better off with a range rather than cooktop and wall oven spacewise and counterwise....See Morebpath
