Tall grasses that are not invasive or grow aggressively?
Comments (2)The problem with pampas grass is usually in how it's used. It is a big...big grass! Planting such a big grass in a tight corner or alongside a house, or clustered into a landscaping is going to result in lots of sweat when digging up down the road. Pampas has a place in landscapes that can handle a specimen of that size. Also, in areas where it is not invasive. In your area, you can try Miscanthus, Panicum, Erianthus. I planted a cortaderia in a whiskey barrel. In 3 years it had engulfed the whiskey barrel and was firmly grounded as well. Don't try to make this grass into something it's not...plenty of other grasses out there to try....See MoreNon Invasive, Low-growing flowers?
Comments (7)What do you mean by invasive? Spreading? or something that seeds all over out of the area? If you never ever want to have to pull something out or cut it back....you better be thinking annuals....but you will have to plant them every year....unless you get something that freely reseeds and then it could be considered invasive. If you are looking for a plant that is pretty, low growing and that you never ever have to do anything to....best be thinking plastic plants. I like lamium for a pretty low growing plant....I do have to pull some of it out when it spreads further than I would like....but it blooms white and pink and has nice varigated leaves and comes back every year so I don't have to replant. Comments (3)Not only is it not invasive, but it simply will not grow here. I've tried it. You may want to try it anyway, but don't spend too much money on it or rip the other stuff out. Just plant the bulbs and watch what happens. As for what will work, well, I don't know. I've been trying for 5 years to find something that would work in the dry shade in my back yard. There are some shrubs and some perennials, but nothing that would work as erosion control unless it was something like ivy or asian jasmine! Good luck....See MoreGrowing invasive/bog plants in a tub
Comments (5)Petasites doesn't need wet soil - just moist soil. It will grow perfectly well under ordinary garden conditions........maybe too well!! If growing it in a tub, which is an excellent way to curb its aggressive spread (bamboo barrier will work also), you want to drain holes (a few) and fill with regular garden soil. The tub, even with drain holes, will help to maintain a pretty damp growing environment in addition to keeping the plant from taking over the landscape....See Morekimmq
