In your locale I think it may be possible. You will need a good air moving system to cut down the chances of disease due to moisture droplets just sitting on the plants and to vent out the heat. Lots of plants do better with moving air without the above considerations.If you look at local commercial growers you will see many of them with plastic houses set them up so the sides can be rolled up to allow heat and air exchange. In the summer your biggest challenge will be to vent the heat and a fan and open door may not do it, opening the sides might. You didn't say how long you wish to extend the season therefore if you wish to heat the house.You can find lots of info on four season gardening through books like Elliot Colemans where he uses hoops inside the GH over his plants to protect from the cold and extend the season.This might be an alternative to heating. You can also learn a lot of tricks by going to computer sites in the UK, maybe in Canada and Alaska,where the climate will not allow for warm weather crops to be grown outdoors with great success. Other then the heat issue they face similar challenges when it comes to bugs, disease, pollination etc as we do when working inside a structure. I'd encourage you to keep researching and give this idea a shot, sounds doable to me. Good luck, PQ

Well it looks as though we dodged the snow and ice. Got up and didn't see anything other than rain. Temps are only just reaching 40 F now. Very cold and damp. I did walk about in the garden to check the plants and no ice on anything so if it did snow/sleet during the night,it had to be very brief here. The sev's and ev's are not liking the temp change. Dormants are not skipping a beat and look as good as when they first emerged a few weeks ago. We shall see what happens in the long term. The butterfly bushes were toasted (not from heat) from the last dip we had a week ago. I'm not sure if they will set new leaves again. I'll need to check around on what the downside will be. All the leaves are wilted BUT amazingly, the lilac bush is leafed out and the bloom buds appear not to be affected. Same with our weeping cherry tree and the other ornamental cherry trees. They don't seem bothered as of yet. The wild lupine foliage is flattened down and forget about tulips this year. They are not going to bloom. Ugly twisted foliage. The lilies are not poking up yet. Maybe they died or just smart enough to stay hidden longer. Could those of you who are having the "warm" temps please send it north? I'd appreciate getting back into the 60's again...if possible. I quit early today as I wanted to get all the lawn areas mowed short before the rains come. The shrub with the pinkish to white flowers is a viburnum. Behind that is a lilac that is just starting to open. The flowering trees are weeping cherry which keeps getting closer to the ground each year. I may need to give it a trim this fall. The other flower trees are Ornamental Cherry. Pink, darker red and a white The tulips are Pink Impressions and they are huge blooms here. Wow, love the color on them. Yes, mantis, you got all of them spotted correctly. I also have Daydream and Golden Oxford in that bed. In the other pics are Red Impressions. One odd set of tulip bulbs I got was Apple Blossom. Odd because you don't know which bulbs are what color as they are a mixed so I just planted them. Some came out with white,light pinks as shown in the photo. I did other groupings of AB and some are all pinks to light pink. The lake in the background of the one picture I posted before is actually about 2 miles from our place but we do get a nice view of it . I had the telephoto lens on when taking pics so it makes things appear closer than they actually are. Like in this pic, the neighbors barn looks very close but actually it is pretty far away. Marmalade is our best bud. We find that she likes to nap in the daylilies, rolls around in the mulch and learned a lesson not to rub up against the rose bush with thorns. Still swats at the bees though. Hope you enjoy the tour. I can't wait for Iris and daylily blooms and to put icing on the cake, INTELLIGENT DESIGN has a scape up but it is growing rather crooked. A few years ago me and my buddy were taking a late night drive in Lenox, Ny (it is in between Oneida ny and Canatosta Ny). We were going around a curve in the road when i saw a camel/dark tan colored big cat next to the road looking to cross. I thought I was crazy until my dads buddy who lives 5 min from sighting told me hes seen a couple around on his way to work. Now i have a more recent sighting on Lake road in Oneida ny. My grandparents live on that road and one day I was fishing oneida creek behind their house, there is about a mile in between the house and the creek with very thick woods. I was just fishing when I looked down and saw a huge cat like footprint in the mud at the creek bank, it looked pretty fresh so i decided to walk downstream towards Oneida lake. I walked about a half mile downstream until i saw a big cat identical to the one i saw on Buyea Road. It was moving very swift and quick, something ive never seen before. I watched it for about 10 seconds until it dissapeared into the woods. Mountain lions are far from ”extinct” in upstate NY. I believe there is actually a good population. There is so much hilly land up here and alot of deep woods for them to hide.
