Furniture Design Dilemma living room

Family Room Layout help

We have just purchased our forever home and need some advice. The family room is bright and beautiful with some great built ins. We are struggling to figure out how how to furnish it. We need a decent sized couch and a table and chairs. We want a table slightly bigger than the one that is staged so it can accommodate 5-6 chairs. It can either be circular or rectangular. If we put the tv on the big empty wall and the couch in line with the fireplace, I wonder if it will ruin the symmetry of the built ins. If we put tv above the fireplace, could we put a circular table on the left and an L shaped couch on the right? We will probably spend most of our time in this room and we want to get it right!

I don't see anything wrong with your layout. I see a room in need of some color. Below are a couple of Benjamin Moore paints.

Wow that’s just beautiful! I love the monochromatic look of it. How about a bar height table?

Not a Pro. I see the registries, but I would probably flip the room so that the sectional is on the window side. Just put it a few inches from the wall so that you have room for drapes and registries to do their job. Maybe add a very thin sofa table behind the sofa to give it the space it needs. Long console with tv on the full wall. Probably would get a floating console, so that room would look larger with all that floor space showing. Put two chairs near the fireplace. Add cocktail table. Possibly a table near one of the chairs near the fireplace or a standing light fixture. No matter how you decide to decorate this room, please post an updated picture :-)

A sectional won't give you the variety of interior decorating choices that a couch and two chairs. Also, ceiling lights don't do anyone any favors. Much better is a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height.

Put the t v to the left of fireplace. A Sectional will work..float all the furniture so it doesn't interfere with walkways.

The TV definitely doesn't need to go above the fireplace, so put it on the wall where the art is. The you can get a rectangular table or a round table.

Sorry I don't have the color of the walls. Its a new build and I don't have that information. No bar height table as I have young children
