Raised Bed vs Sod replacement costs
Comments (8)Hi Everyone, Thanks for the suggestions on herbs - sounds good to me! The compost was delivered and put in my beds today. It is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS stuff!! No way I could get something like this mixing up things out of bags. It's rich, dark, and has a great texture thoughout. "My guys" went to the landfill and paid for 10 cu yds and were told they got that amount. But when everything was in place, it was obvious they were short changed so I called the landfill. They doubled checked on things and said, "Oh you only got 7 cu yds, come back and we'll give you the rest." So the guys went back and they gave them an additional 7 cu yds (instead of just 3)! So I've got my beds totally filled and mounded up with more compost (which will probably settle out to level after a few months), plus a nice additional pile to use in additional beds or my salad tables. The guys said that the bulldozer driver had to drive up this mountain of muck at the base of the pile and was sliding all around. They thought they got extra just because the bulldozer driver didn't want to have to go back up the mountain if the order was still short . Anyway, I'm so pleased with the outcome and I have to give credit where credit is due - to all the people responding to my various posts here on the forum! Thanks everyone!! Comments (4)It is worse than you have heard. There are only two common seeded varieties and neither preform or look good. The seed is very expensive, extremely hard to germinate and takes a very long time if it ever germinates at all. Take my advice and bite the bullet and buy a high quality Zoysia sod. Just wait a little while longer for it to warm up a bit more like May before you do as the results will be worth it waiting until grass is growing vigorously. You can do it now if you want, but likely will have problems with rotting and very slow root growth and green up. Let the sod get greened up at the sod farm and wait for warmer weather. You will be glad you did....See Moreanyone ever hydroseed??
Comments (2)I haven't seen many landscaping companies doing that way, usually that's done by highway and road departments of cities where the need is extensive. Does the contractor say what kinds of grasses will the spray contain. Combination of the best types is I think better to stand up to most conditions of weather. Maybe you had better get some kind of guarantee with this job so that you can go back to him if the results don't please you....See MoreGrass seeding vs. re-sodding question
Comments (7)Weed and Feed is...well, not really good at the Weed aspect. It's OK on feed, but that's usually delivered at exactly the wrong time. If it's KBG, an application of Weed B Gon will take out the dandelions with no problems. With an area that small, spot application is probably best, using a gallon sprayer. There's no sense blanketing a very small lawn like that, nor throwing around herbicides you don't really need. When they recur--and they will as new ones sprout--keep up the spot spraying....See MoreUser
