Plumeria garden

New cutting just stopped growing!

Hey everyone! I recently bought a del ray peach back in March, planted it and everything went routine. Grew its claw like leaves and before I knew it, its first leaf had opened and is about 3 to 4 inches long. But since then, nothing. It has completely stopped growing. I've squeezed the base, its hard, poked with needle all over, white sap...I still have that one leaf which is perfectly green, and about 6 new leaves, varying in length from 2 1/2 inches to half an inch...they are all closed and havent opened and its pushing a month now. Anyone know what's wrong?

Update on my del ray peach. Transplanting helped. Thanks for the advice!

Not sure of the climate conditions being experienced. So let's start with a basic one. Try warming up the soil with a heat mat.

The easiest option is to just let it be. Sometimes the plant is just preparing to waken, and seems to be stalled. If you are really curious, you could take it out of the pot and gently rinse the root ball with water. Normal roots are whitish. I have had plumies do what yours are doing, and when I looked at the root ball, some had white roots, but a lot had brown, dead looking roots. If the roots are white, just pot it back up. Make sure you are gentle putting soil around the roots. It is easy to break them off. If the roots are brown and thin, they may be rotting. As Karyn said, it can be from too much water (although it doesn't sound like you are overwatering), and perhaps from cold soil. Sunshine alone sometimes isn't enough. Mike

My plumie was a bit squishier than I would like, which was what worried me. I poked him in all the squishy places and he oozed white, which was good, but confusing. Then I gently dug it up (I didn't tug it out, I was a little to afraid for that) and cleaned off the dirt. It had a little root poking out from the bottom, and more looked like they were trying to bud, again comforting, but confusing. So I was reading about this rather odd situation and it seems like I kept getting " if your plumeria is squishy and wrinkled, but oozes white, it may just need water." So I repotted it in new sandy/soil mix and gave him a drink and a few drops of superthrive and am just waiting to see if it comes back. Did I do the right thing? I couldn't cut him to see if there was rot, I just didn't feel like it was right. The weather has not helped either, nothing but grey skies all week and the storms next week. I just hope I didn't make it worse with the drink.

Hi sjp8987, I'm no expert but I've read that center cuttings take a liitle longer to root. I would check the cutting as far down as you can go below the soil line. If it's firm all the way down and there is no sun damage, all you can do is be patient. I would protect it a little from the 100 degree heat. You can mist the top or trickle a little water around the rim of the pot, watching not to let the water gather around the stem. That is what I would do, but again, I'm no expert. What Maggie said about being on top of removing ALL new growth as it appears is important. If you allow the stump to sucker, you'll have gained nothing, as the suckers will support the root mass just fine if allowed to grow. The idea is to prevent the plant from making food (via photosynthesis) it can transport to the roots, thus starving it to death. I'd cut the stump off at the ground, drill holes in it, fill the holes with urea, and let the nitrogen munching organisms eat the stump. Al

I have it indoors in a grow tent with 600 watts, 6 inch intake fan, humidifier, and it's on a timer set for 14 hrs...just bought a thermometer yesterday and it's a steady 100 degrees in there but with great air circulation...was beginning to think it's too hot but then its plumeria were talking about...someone told me try repotting in new soil...thoughts?

It looks like it’s “thinking”, which is what I notice when they’re about to push out an inflo. If you peek thru those claws, you might see it crowning.

Or there’s a problem with the roots. You can try scratching around to see if you can feel any soggy roots.

I tried the repotting idea...wen I pulled it out, roots were about 1 to 2 inches long. First time ever seeing roots of a plumeria, so everything looked ok...they didnt seem soggy, so idk...I have it in fresh soil now, and took measurements of current leaves to see if theres any growth...well see what happens...thanks for ur help!
