KT Book Club!

Hi everyone,

On a thread last week, we started bouncing around the idea of a KT book club. I have been looking into it, and I think there are some great options available. I wanted to create this post to get an idea about the level of interest in having a book club like this.

I have been doing some brainstorming, and I have a few ideas about the structure. I’m completely open to suggestions and comments, but I figured we needed somewhere to start.

What I am picturing is a type of “Book of the Month” club where several books are presented, and we can vote on which one to read for the upcoming month. Once that month starts, we will have a reading schedule and discussion questions broken up into book sections. This way, everyone can start participating at their own pace without being spoiled.

I will make a monthly announcement here on the KT, but I think it would be best to have the actual group elsewhere to keep threads organized. Goodreads.com has a nice group setting that I have been exploring. It is set up very nicely for organization and discussions, and it has a lot of research options.

As for the schedule, I’m thinking it should be structured and paced. I know a lot of members borrow books from the library, and we also have some fast readers so I think if it’s too slow, people might lose interest. I’m picturing the actual schedule for reading to be between a week and 10 days, depending on length. Of course, if someone needs additional time, that's fine, and they can participate on their own schedule. The rest of the time would be devoted to additional discussion and voting for the next book.

If this is successful, we could also branch out into different genres each month for the more voracious readers among us!

If you are interested, please complete the anonymous survey here so that I can get a better idea of everyone's interests and book options: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Q3G39RM

If enough people want to join, I'll get it started for June 2018, and we can have a quick vote later this week to pick a book.

Thank you, and please feel free to share your thoughts!
