Aha - you got the brand new Hybrid of a great Canadian hybridizer Iain James. Looks like that I cannot even find the pic. I grow several Peridots and I grow them under lights on the mats. Peridots Kitlope is a good one to grow under AV lights - it is short and floriferous. I add sphagnum moss and perlite to a usual AV mix for Kohlerias to make the soil more breathable. I am thinking that if you have new growth coming from the bottom - it means you have plenty of rhizomes in the pot. I would shake the pot out, harvest the rhizomes - and plant the ones that already have shoots. The ones that are asleep - I would put in a baggie with a bot of barely mist vermiculite. They will be ready to plant in a month when they will start thir shoots. I am thinking- may be if you restart the pot - you will have better success. Who knows how long the plant was growingh in this soil. The Kohleras do much better if you start them in new soil from rhizomes. They get revitalized. Kohlerias are very easy, anything that you start doing - has some learning curve. But you will enjoy them afterwards. Post pics about your progress - I love Kohlerias and want you to succeed! irina

You need to acclimate any kind of plant to new conditions, especially such a young one. There are Kohlerias that take high light - and there are ones that prefer AV conditions. In nature - there ones that are understory plants - growing in a shade of a tropical forest - and ones that grow in an open - usually you can say by the shape of the corolla - if it has good size petals, it is a shade lover, if it is a tubular blossom practically without petals - sun lover. In culture we have all the kind of hybrids - mixed heritage - usually dark leaf Kohlerias requite more light than paler leaf ones. An old but very good hybrid Kohleria "Jester" can take sunny window and bloom its head off non stop for years. Skorched leaves - from too much light - is just a cosmetical damage. You move it to the more appropriate conditions - and it will pick up no problem. But if a grower tries to fix the problem with more watering - that can be a death sentence. The soil should be light, humid - but never soggy. The good part - these rhizomatous plants put underground rhizomes - so even the top dies = they resprout. But the baby plant didn't have a chance to put a rhizome. They are easier to grow than AVs. So - try again. Irina
