What you are looking for is a fertilizer with a Big 1st number and Small 2nd and 3rd numbers.... 39-0-0, 29-0-5, etc.... Remember... High 1st number, Low other numbers.... Flip over the bag and look at the analysis... You are looking for the words "Poly coated Urea" This means "Slow Release" There is plenty of this stuff available at HD and Lowe's... though it isn't the Lesco product that TW recommends in the Bermuda Bible.... Use up your Starter Fertilizer at Bermuda Bible Rate -- then start buying something like 29-0-5 or 39-0-0 for the rest of the season.... Thanks John

Folks: Be patient and enjoy the zen of buds. Enjoy the anticipation. You're on orchid time. You know the faster they are open, the sooner you can be looking forward to them wilting and browning and falling off. While the full bloom is awesome to behold, the process of opening is too. When my DH's Stanhopea is in bud, I enjoy watching the progess, the form as it develops and passes through odd forms resembling a toucan beak, etc. and finally the bizaar humming bird finale. The cold weather, if the house the heater and perhaps lack of air circulation. It likes it warm. It doesn not like peat moss, and gathers mosture from the air at night. Don't leave by an open winder. Change the soil to dry soil, with a lot of coarse sand mixed into very little orchid bark, I live in the far West, I have African Weather, mine does fine year round, Do not mist them. If you are going to water,Then water thoroughly, the not again until the soil, not peat moss dries out. When you get a plant always change the soil. The western wholesale houses ships in peat so they won't dry out on the trip. Use a Cactus mix add in coarse washed construction sand at a ratio of 40% and only 10 % red wood bark or oak leaf. 50% perlite or pumice. Kalanchoe cannot grow in cold unless with other plants around them, they do not like harsh Eastern temps. Most Kalanchoe are from Madagascar. Has it outgrown it's pot? Norma

Sorry to do so, but no one has so far questioned what kind of soil mix it's currently planted in.......what is it please? It looks rather dark and peaty with maybe a very small ratio of perlite, which 'generally' indicates its too water retaining which isn't good for c/s of most types. Its seems to be a general fact that when a plant such as this isn't getting the correct amount of light, we often find it's also in the wrong soil, and planted in a pot without a hole, these 3 facts often go hand in hand I'm afraid. So usually, if we respond and correct one or two errors as in this case, the light and the holeless pot, we can also pick up on the 'possibility' of the third....the soil choice. Gill
