old, woody lavender -- replace or try to rejuvenate?

I have a couple of old lavenders in my front bed that have been wonderful over the past few years but, despite my (admittedly lackluster) efforts, are getting very woody and scraggly. I'm tempted to just pull them out and put something else in, but kind of feel bad about it, like I should at least attempt to bring them back to form. Has anyone had any luck with a lavender that has already gotten into this phase? Should I just chuck it and move on?
