Ingrid, the fireplace is definitely a cause for ongoing contemplation - what to do with the darker blue area jutting behind the mantel, the mantel colour, and the fire surround. Pillows are a little difficult as they slide off the leather, but if I see some must-have lumbar pillows I will snap them up for sure. Thank you for your suggestions. As for books, I have bookcases full in the finished basement, and stacks in my own room of "next reads" which I am constantly trying to tame. As there isn't much surface area in this main level "everything" room, I tend to just carry around whatever I am reading at the time. I love the look of vignettes with books on coffee tables, but I use that surface frequently to serve hors d'oeuvres or beverages, and don't want to hunt for somewhere to clear items other than maybe candles or fresh flowers. I guess I am getting a little lazy in my older age;)

I can't help but notice the following: The square tiles and a border at the entrance door are kind of odd. Why not just replace them with the same flooring just like that of the bigger part of the room? If the middle of the art works are at most's eye level and they take up about 2/3 of the width of the sofa, then they should be fine. I would like to see the window with a floor to ceiling cream sheer curtain to brighten up the room. A palm plant at the very corner. A wooden brown solid round table with height higher than the arm rest of the sofas. A table lamp with round cover. Cream fabric seat covers for both sofas.

The seating for 5 adults is much easier due to shape of space. Your room has to have 3’ walkway so that reduces the available space for furniture by 3’. So having about 20’ instead of 14’ is a big advantage. The distance from seating to the TV is also a consideration and the TV on the long wall puts the main seating in good position. There are good ways to manage wires and by putting a wall mounted console it helps with that and raises it above your baseboard heating. The view from the kitchen to the far wall is enhanced by large art over a sofa type table or buffet on that far wall. You can also handle a nice size sofa with the TV on long wall. The other orientation limits furniture size and configuration much more. If you need to watch TV while in kitchen you could put TV on a wall mount that allows you to angle TV toward kitchen. It would be best if you got rid of them; they're not flattering or in this room. I don't know how you explain it to your husband, but you should sell them or throw them away. Buy a small low coach instead, and I suggest something lighter. If the walls and furniture are of a similar color, everything feels more spacious and decluttered.
