A slightly strange question about cleaning

One of my delightful children sprayed a section of our wall with Windex. I was worried that it would damage the paint but in fact it seems to have simply dissolved the dirt and gunk and the paint appears unscathed.

Despite this successful spot test I'm still sceptical. Does anyone know of any reason why using Windex to clean all my walls could be a problem?

Hmm,"appears unscathed"? Now,there's the smelly kicker. A large expanse might reveal the scathing. Also,isn't Windex tinted blue,doubt it would transfer but.........? My Mom was the cleanest & cleaningest woman ever. She used to make us scrub walls with a dilute ammonia,vinegar and baking soda solution more often than my Dad painted.

I know! It was so magical how everything just melted right off. But if the paint melted off too that would be horrifying.

The wall is very light coloured so I think I would notice if there was any colour transfer.

But I will probably just stick with my usual vinegar and water and drop of dishsoap, plus elbow grease. Unless someone comes in and says "This is all I've used for years, no problem!" LOL

Last winter I rescued a bunch of cuttings from the compost pile. Not sure how many weeks had passed but we had experienced a couple of nights with freezing temps. I'd say that 75% of the cuttings made it. That's why I figured they'd be ok in the fridge for a while. I don't toss branches in the compost pile or even on the ground during the summer because they'll root where they land. I bag them up and they rot pretty fast. Bill I'm surprised they made it that long out of water. Were they in a cool location? I'm sure they were ok or you certainly would have heard something. I've taken cuttings and have forgotten to put them in water. After a week on the garage floor they're toast.

There seems to be some misunderstanding here. If you take a cutting from the top of your plant, that cutting will "remember" its physiological age, so if the seedling is 5 years old, that cutting will act as if it were 5 years old. However, if you take a cutting from near the base of the tree, it will behave as if it were much younger. The tree is counting nodes (points of attachment of leaves and buds) from the original seed. Your goal is to get to as high a node count as possible, since it will become mature, and produce flowers, after a certain node number is reached. So yes, if you always take your cuttings from the top of a plant, you continue to add to the count.

A mgnat sticks to a ferrous metal...or something that has a ferrous metal core... A magnat will often stick to the thin uprights on an old brass bed, because there is a steel rod inside for support....brass bends easily. I suspect your lamp base is what used to be known as "white brass' a copper alloy containing a large amount of chrome, I think it is....and some zinc. I think it will polish up more....but it will then be "silver-ish" and if you want it patinated, you will have to let that happen. Better natural than out of a bottle in my opinion... Same thing happened to me a while back. It's a computer hacker from China. He somehow got into my (previous) Hotmail account and started sending everyone on my email list, emails that sounded like they were from me! He made it sound like I was suggesting they try out his wonderful site in China to buy things. Hotmail and MSN were extremely worthless in helping me get rid of it. Frankly, it seemed to me that they could care less, despite numerous emails to them. I finally closed all my accounts with them and moved to Comcast, which has much better security. But, the bottom line is that they stole my email list and continue to send emails to my family & friends every so often. Talk about creepy! I feel for you and hope you can stop it. Let me know if you do, but definitely make sure your computerfiles haven't been compromised any more! Lynn
