sinks satin or refined brushed finish??
Comments (5)I looked at sinks for a short time till the fabricator I used offered me a sink, so to save money I went with it (he gave a choice of 3). I got curious about the difference because of this post, so did a little research, this is what I found, hope it helps: The satin finish is general finer / smoother to the touch but both the terms are used to described multiple different finishes. There are various ways of applying mechanical polishes belts / brushes to stainless steel each can have different levels of roughness and so finishes can vary dependent on the requirement of the end use. Ideally it is best to look and touch but not always practical often these finishes can be very similar....See MoreCare of brushed/satin finish stainless faucets?
Comments (1)We have a Kohler "vibrant stainless" (a/k/a brushed or satin finish) kitchen faucet. The directions for care indicated certain gentle cleaners (Clorox GreenWorks being one, which I already have,,, so I remember that one). There was nothing about waxing the faucet. Each brand is different, though, so what works for ours may not work for yours....See MoreBrushed Stainless vs Brushed Nickel vs Satin Nickel Finshes
Comments (6)"...but the stores are a nightmare this week..." Oh, jaxo! I needed to be in a major department store poking around the housewares/linens section this week. The crowds weren't bad, but the really bad Christmas music almost drove me to distraction! Most of it seemed to be the quality of "Grandma got run over by a reindeer." Heaven forbid they should venture into some of the lovely classical recordings....See MoreHelp! Stainless steel VS brushed Nickel or other finish sink.
Comments (4)I have not seen a brushed nickel sink. And you say you see them the most along with stainless steel which I agree are commonly available. Do you have a link for a brushed nickel sink? I cannot comment on a brushed nickel sink, but I can tell you that all stainless steel sinks will scratch regardless of price. You can have a sink grid in the sink which will reduce the possibility of scratches. But many people don't like the grids cause they are one more thing to clean and deal with, with nooks and crannies for gunk. Many people just shrug their shoulders at the stainless scratches, because eventually they will all blend into a patina and you won't notice them. Other than the patina, stainless steel is tops in durability, assuming you get a thicker gauge like 16-gauge, which, as it turns out, is not more expensive than the thinner 18-gauge sinks if you shop wisely. Check out Kraus sinks sold at Overstock and other websites. If you are worried about scratches, you might want to look at different materials of sinks like enameled cast iron or Blanco Silgranit. What size is your sink cabinet base? That may limit your choices....See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
