Comments (7)what a great job you did with these photos. I find it very difficult to get good photos in the bright sun as you have done. I love this garden. I've gotten to the point where i feel like I have a personal relationship with many of its roses....See MoreFollow-up/ pics of old cemeteries & stones
Comments (14)duchesse nalabama.....I was certainly surprised myself at how close those headstones (in photo 3) were together. It seems there are only inches between the graves! I have no idea why they are so close, except to say that the graves close like that were the oldest stones in the cemetery. The other parts of the cemetery where the stones were more recent, they were farther apart. Maybe the original cemetery plot was small so they had to crowd them together like that for lack of space? It did appear to me that they enlarged the cemetery in later years. hunt4cem-roses....(great name, btw!)....Its great to know of yet another fellow enthusiast and I hope you will continue to join in the forum! I love hearing from others about their 'finds' and experiences. DH and I always wonder what kinds of roses folks are finding in other parts of the country. It certainly is an enjoyable pastime that not many people other than ourselves truly understand. People think we're a bit 'odd' the way we explore so many old cemeteries...lol. mendocino rose....Glad you were able to visit up 'our way'. New England really IS beautiful, although this time of year we are all getting restless for the snow to go away! Celeste...See MoreSacramento Cemetery Propagation Workshop times?
Comments (20)I thought you might like an update. When I left the cemetery I went home and tried to root three each of different cuttings using the terrarium method - Perle d' Or, Archduke Charles and a Chicago Peace (which I have at home). I've watered once a week but otherwise left the lid on in partial sun to develop roots. This weekend I tugged lightly and have resistance on two of the Archduke Charles and two of the Chicago Peace! I haven't given up on the Perle d' Or. They may just take longer. Only one is truly dead and I pulled it out (the stem turned brown). All the leaves look pretty bad but I'm leaving them alone. I put them in the little clear glasses so I could see roots when they develop. None yet, but I'm hopeful! Any advice at this stage would be great, otherwise I'm continuing until I see roots in the glasses! Debbie...See MoreFound this white Rose- Lamarque or some other white rose?
Comments (7)The buds are very rounded, but the smaller ones are pointed. I shoved some in a bowl as I was playing Morticia Addams making some cutting to try and root. I does look very much like the rose you fond in Sonoma, catspa, except there is no red in the growth and the buds and flowers have glandular prickle like structures, but maybe it hasn't put forth much new growth. It is highly neglected but the foliage is healthy and hearty! I like that it may be an Alba, it really does look like most of the photos, especially the second and last photos which do not show the new red growth. I knew I could count on you experts! It really is white, which made me wonder after looking at more photos, no yellowish center. A fun find! I found it at the Oddfellows Cemetery in Anderson....See Moreportlandmysteryrose
