I only once cut Dendranthema - Chrysanthemum 'Clara Curtis' for inside. My nose was very unhappy. They had the most rank odor!

We can rely our garden phlox to put on a great show in the garden itself. However, using them as cut flowers hasn't worked well. Reference below includes actions to extend their "rather brief vase life".

I once cut some flowers from my pear tree and they smelled awful! Lesson learned.

Golden alexanders also were a mistake -- yellow pollen everywhere. I was disappointed to see that since those umbels were such a nice contrast in a bouquet.

I will second the French lilacs. Cut some yesterday and they didn’t last a day.

Poppies won’t either.

Some people don’t like the smell of marigolds. They’re kind of spicey, sharpish smelling.

I, for one, like the smell of marigolds, but supposedly a lot of garden pests don't, hence the vintage wisdom to plant a row of marigolds in the vegetable garden. I did that for years, but have no idea if it kept vegetable-eating insects away.

Poppies not only don't last long as cut flowers, they last only a day growing in a garden (at least the opium/bread seed varieties).

Dandelions. That may go without saying, but I'm remembering the days when my kids were small and dandelions were presented to tuck behind my ear. Within 5 minutes I had a sagging ear bouquet! I find that many wildflowers here are not good for cutting.
