I just lost my dream house
Comments (48)I drove through a different area yesterday, for Nick's football game, near where my sister lives and where I used to live. I am not kidding, I probably could have counted a hundred for sale signs. Maybe even more. And that is the supposedly desirable area. This is the boonies. That's the problem - this area wasn't built up during the housing boom so there isn't excess inventory. What is on the market in my range are the unsellables - one bad location (next to the biggest 24 hour gas station in town, at the busiest intersection), one has a cesspool, one is a peeling Victorian (I don't want to deal with old peeling possibly lead paint with two young children). This is the type of area where people don't move in and out of very often, they just move around and no one is moving around since there is no place to move to. There really isn't a neighboring town south (there's a big mountain) and I don't really want to go any further north but even if I did - those towns have even less to offer....See MoreInstead of Going Home After Work I Went to Home Depot Jade and Lithops
Comments (9)Thank you also. I do love the Asian look in all aspects. I love the pot also, but have been told if I keep the plant in it too long, I will never be able to get it out of the pot, due to the shape. But I am not ready to repot yet... I really love the looks of the trunk on this variety...seems to look different from other jades. I have had it a few years now, not sure how many, exactly. Good luck with yours. Comments (12)kcmnc, shrubs grow faster than you assume. Here is a bed I planted in the fall of 2009, but photographed in June 2010, with nothing taller than 3' except a very few of the evergreens that were 4'-5'. Most of the rhododendrons, dogwoods, spicebushes, hydrangeas, etc were under 2', and some were about 6". The cherry trunk visible in the photo below is just out of sight to the right in this photo. And here it is in 2014, with just less than 5 years in the ground. The large pink Hydrangea paniculata 'Pinky Winky' is 8' tall x 12' wide, well over my head (it is the little lopsided green blob on the left in photo 1.) Note how much space between the hydrangea and the dark green arborvitae in photo 1; they are touching in photo 2. Even after gardening for 35+ years, I was floored by how quickly it filled in! It has almost totally hidden the large logs, buildings, and solar panels it was designed to keep out of sight. Many of the perennials I put in initially have disappeared since they were overgrown by the shrubs. Seriously consider looking up your shrub's predicted width and plant accordingly as suggested above by all of us. In two years you will have covered at least half of the foundation as long as they are plants suited for the spot (soil, sun, etc), and the plants will create a distraction that makes it less apparent since your eyes will have something else to focus on of more interest. Are you planning on staying less than 3 years? You also always have the option of parging or painting the foundation to make it fade into the background better. If you leave the shrubs where they are, either you or a future owner will regret it since you/they will be putting in time fighting to keep them away from the building....See MoreNumerous showings no offer
Comments (2)Do you have an urgent need to sell (contingency on another purchase? Move for a new job? Are you ok to sit on the house for a while to get a price you want? Do you have a number you need to get in order to make it work?)...See More- 8 years ago
