What major home improvement would you like to make
Comments (42)Lot of things! I would take the sunroom off and add about 6 or 7 feet to the entire back of the house, making my bedroom, both bathrooms and the kitchen bigger. I would make a little cozy sitting room/den/sunroom area off the kitchen. Completely redo the kitchen and add a little bigger dining area. I bought tile flooring for the bathrooms that never got put in so that would have to be done, actually the baths need to be redone, they aren't horrible but I can't stand fiberglass tubs. If I had the money I would put in real porcelin. I'd put in Pergo all through the house and get rid of the carpet. I only have it in the kitchen right now. I don't really care about granite counters to I'd just put in some nice looking Corian or laminate in both baths and kitchen. Then I'd put in a brick patio area out back with raised bed gardens for my vegetables. I'd then have a landscaper come in and fix my existing beds, making a Japanese style garden out front, complete with koi pond (that I would hire someone else to take care of-LOL!) with the little bridge over, etc...( : I'd also have a couple dwarf fruit trees put out on the side yard: apple and cherry. Take out the pear tree out front and put in a big Sugar Maple....See MoreEecks! Help..home office pics!
Comments (74)Wow, lisa, it looks great! What a difference flooring can make! ;) I'm with patricia, I think it looks really nice. I'd sit on it awhile and see how it feels to you. However, since you're getting an estimate, I went ahead with doodles with new carpeting ;) Some are below. I did separate by wood (doors, trim, crown, built-in) so I can paint/leave any combination of wood you'd like to see. IOW, just doors + trim, just built-in, or whole room, etc. so any combination/color is just a click away, feel free to ask ;) I'm getting ready to leave, will be gone most of the day, but will check in later. Oh, in answer to your question about getting paint off the oak, try just rubbing it with a damp cotton rag (t-shirt material), well wrung out. Paint will eventually start to dissolve a bit. To get the worst off, wrap it in a thin layer around something that won't gouge the wood, like a plastic, non-serrated knife or plastic putty knife. (Wouldn't use a metal putty knife, that will gouge if you slip.) Goof-off will also work. Rubbing alcohol will also take if off, but that might harm the finish of the wood. I'm not liking the darker colors, I'll try to get something better on there. Virtual paint doesn't render well as a 'stain'. ;) Original, as is with new carpeting: Cream Homespun Linen Sleigh Bed (med brown) Shiraz (Dark Brn) Ebony(ish) Saddle...See MoreOpinions on Listing
Comments (25)Thank you again for all of the input! Hello blubird, - Rt 18 can not be seen or heard from our house at all and we don't back to it. It's extremely quiet in our developement and we have an enormous natural tree buffer in our backyard as well. That said, you are correct in that there are some houses on the other side of the street and at the very end of our long cul de sac that are closer to Rt 18 or back to it, and those houses will sell for less. The house directly behind us sold for $300,000 more than what we are asking. You do raise an important point - some buyers will look at the map, and not drive into the neighborhood to see where the house is situated. On the map it looks like we are much closer than we are - perhaps a point of confusion to be addressed for sure. Kudzu9 I believe Zillow estimate ties to tax assessment which is incorrectly showing on zillow - assessed at over $1.2m - zillow is showing $1.1. We were at $1.3 and appealed a few years ago. Weedyacres, thanks for photo input, good suggestion we do have unique staircases. Many houses in our price range and higher - only home to go under contract in past few months was a home that started out in our price range, but dropped into the $1.1 range (Nice 6000 sq ft house, but no backyard , no patio, no pool, very steeply sloped and heavily wooded lot, at the bottom of a large hill, higher taxes and well water vs public water). Other than that market seems slow. Feedback has been very positive. Some buyers need to sell their house first before considering an offer - that is a factor of course....See MoreHelp - re-Decorating ideas for my home office/den.
Comments (5)A chair (or two) with an ottoman and a table would be great, especially if you are sometimes able to work while sitting in a chair with your coffee, tea (wine) on the table next to you. Is there any way to turn the desk so your back is not to the door and windows? That would bother me. It seems the shape of the desk fits the the way you have it but I wonder if you could turn and float it? If that worked then you also would be able to sit at the desk and talk with someone else in the new chair....I do see you don't have clients but I know my DH comes into my office and we chat. I don't work from home but bring work home and he sometimes comes in while I am finishing stuff up....See MoreHome Interiors with Ease
