Paint Design Dilemma entry

Painting interior door black

I want to paint my interior front door black, but there is a small closet door that sits within a few feet and a pantry door in the kitchen (open concept) that is white. Do I need to paint all 3 doors black? I don't mind painting the closet door, but want to keep the pantry door white to go with white cabinets.

I would just stick to the front door, and not include the closet.

I've painted far more doors than I care to remember... I would make sure the basement temp is acceptable. I like to be about midrange for what they recommend. Also, you might make out better painting the doors while they are upright. I generally stand them upright and have the upper edge only leaning on something. Recently I've taken to priming them, doing a light sanding and cleanup and then hang them and paint them in place. I personally don't consider a coat finished or cured enough to put pressure on it for at least 24 hours and that seems to work fine. Otherwise I end up with sticking like you did. I hope that helps!

So, no info about the colors of any of the rooms. Does black even go with any of the rooms? Doors don't exist on their own, they either add or detract from the space they are in. Here's the thing about painting stuff black...If it's not absolutely perfect and glossy, with a perfect surface underneath, it will look like a college frat house circa 1980. There is no wiggle room with black.

I was just concerned that it might be too flat because the wall paint finish is satin also. The grain pattern wouldn’t be a problem, and I was actually looking at lever handles because I prefer the aesthetic.

The wall color is SW Collonade Gray. That might work. I know it won't look right if it is white. But I'm really concerned about the pantry door, even though it is in the kitchen area, it is still visible because of the open concept.

if the pantry door is closer to the white cabinets than it is to the wall colored closet door, i'd not worry.

Right now the closet door is white. Do you think I should paint the closet the color of the wall or should I paint it black as well? (leaving pantry door white).

no, i think a single black door is enough. whether you want to conceal/de-emphasize your closet door a bit by making it wall color is up to you. i'm just making suggestions without a photo.
