Carla, You're on the right track. The beekeeping club will have some members that collect swarms. Get a list of several of them. Most (perhaps all) will charge for this service; you will probably have to call several before you find a suitable one willing to do the job. There has been on-going concerns (arguments) with the Structural Pest Control Board over beekeepers being legally able to remove a hive from a building. The pest control folks maintain you have to be licensed as a pest controller (a state of Texas license). The other thing I'll mention is IF an exterminator is called, yes, they will probably just want to spray and be done with it. This will leave a big mess behind (in the wall) and the comb/honey will get hot and melt/drip down, attracting fire ants and other undesirables. The hive (comb) really needs to be completely removed and area cleaned and sealed off so no lingering beeswax smells will attract future swarms passing through the area. Hope this helps.

This is so FUNNY in not a ha ha way. Here I am four years later actually getting to the job. One wall done--paper off. At the moment I am washing, washing, washing to get the Diff and glue off the wall. DD#2 moves otu this weekend adn then we can remove furniture from the room I am working in and I will get to the other walls. I did use a tiger..to get water to the paper layer. I have never had a problem with it. I really was hoping to not have to do this in two steps..first the vinyl then the paper backing. I obviously forgot the advise from the experts that was offered. I will try on the next wall but I will have to try and pull the vinyl from the bottom up as there is a boarder that is glued down TIGHT. The elbow grease it takes to get the glue off is insane. Where is the miracle product that just dissolves it? I am using vinegar and water, trying to avoid the TSP. Well back at it. Thanks for checking back in!!

I have covered a ton of wood and mdf with contact paper. It is about as thin as 3 sheets of paper stacked together but it does not really tear because it is made out of some sort of vinyl or plastic I assume. Not paper. It does not appear thin and it isnt see through, at least not the contact paper that I have used. I think it would work fine for your application. ETA - This photo shows a ton of 2x4's, mdf, and book shelves covered in cheap contact paper. If you look at the end of the bed, the striped piece is all white melamine bookshelves covered in 3 different colors of contact paper cut into strips. This is what $6 contact paper looks like. I like the contact paper but I think Penny has a great suggestion with the Rub N Buff also.

We once rented a house whose previous owner had done a whole ”feature” wall in wood grain contact paper. The new owners came one day and asked if we’d mind if they repainted, whatever colours we liked. As the decor was really not our style (flock Baroque wallpaper etc), we said, “Heck no! We’ll help!” The contact paper left a ton of glue on the wall, we scraped and sanded and tried methylated spirits and probably other things but we couldn’t entirely remove it, so we had to paint over the lumps of glue left behind and call it good. It was still a vast improvement.
