That must be it. Strange that she hasn't layed any eggs for months. But then it is winter and out of 18 hens I am only getting between 9 & 12 eggs a day. Maybe she just stopped for the winter? Maybe she needed more light then I gave her? I got a second blue egg today. If they can't change the color egg they lay then you are right and I am confused!! lol. Wouldn't be the first time. I'm just happy to be getting blue eggs again. Thank you for your help. Stacy

way back when i farmed for a living we saw an ad in the catalog that we ordered our baby chicks. we ordered a dozen straight run araucana chicks. and paid 50Cents each plus shipping. which we thought was expensive. But once they started laying pastel colored eggs in green and blue and pink and tan. we were real happy with them and we sold the extra fresh farm eggs. everybody wanted the easter eggs! I set up a incubater in the celler and hatched out lots of eggs and also traded eggs with a friend who also had the chickens too. to have a bigger gene pool of chicks. a few years later i was taking 12 dozen eggs to work each week and always had requests for more, i got a promotion at work and gave up farming to move to another town to work. in the ads in the sunday paper this week i saw an add selling baby auracana chicks for $3.00 each.

Definitely not a bluebird. A juvenile (1st year) bluebird would have primaries, primary coverts, secondries and tail feathers that are blue. The back would be heavily spotted and the spotting on the front would extend all the way down to the belly and sides of the bird. This bird shows none of those characteristics but is a dead ringer for a Swainson's Thrush. If you do a google search for juvenile Eastern Bluebird and you will see the characteristics I mentioned above. Hope that helps. BN

seaswirl- Great fixtures and color, love that you are keeping them. If the cool, vintage tile floor is going, I like the thought of white with red, maybe a red between cranberry red and Teaberry gum red, which, while a bold choice (only you know your tolerance for that), is also a traditional choice, and you could have a Williamsburg like shower curtain in a floral pattern with those colors or go contemporary and do somethink ikat inspired or striped featuring the red and blue and probably some yellow gold and a rich spring green. If you are keeping the floor, I'd go straight clear white without any yellow or gray, I think the blue is too happy a color to go grey with. Good luck- sandyponder
