Need Advice on New Concrete Driveway Problems
New concrete driveway was poured in February. There were a lot of issues during the pour including a heavy rain for about 15-20 minutes on the top section, the middle section they ran out of concrete and had to wait for a truck (so texture was really bad and some aggregate was showing), brush finish was inconsistent, there was unevenness and significant areas where it would hold water when it would rain, the control joints are not visible and there is cracking and chipping where the control joints should be.
The concrete company tried to fix it by putting on an skim coat. Over the past months the concrete has started to chip and crack, texture is very uneven and it looks really bad. They said they would grind down the driveway and resurface but they just put another skim coat (still looks bad) and I'm concerned that over time it won't hold up. Joints are not even visible since they were covered even more by another layer of concrete. I asked what was used and they said it was concrete powder mixed with concrete adhesive.
Is this normally how you would go about fixing a bad concrete job? Is there anyway to fix this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am retired and by myself and I don't have anyone to give me advice. I would really appreciate any advice .... please help!!!!!

Comments (5)Our builder told us to wait at least a year before we did any hard surface and we are glad we waited. We still have our gravel driveway and gravel courtyard and will probablly do pavers in the courtyard next year. The issue we ran into was settling and drainage. When the house was finished, the excavator shot the grades to make sure everything was pitched right - and at first all the water ran off the way it was supposed to. However, over time the ground settled, we had some run off and erosion as we were getting our lawn established, and we discovered a number of areas that had to be re-graded. Also found a spot where we needed a culvert. Comments (2)I doubt it's the concrete mix. Certainly looks like a workmanship issue. Definitely not enough control joints for that span. Also very surprised that they didn't have a layer of stone beneath the pour. I think it's acceptable to lag the concrete to the house with rebar but in my opinion it would be preferable to add an expansion joint. Comments (5)Contact the company that installed your driveway with this question. They should solve your problem, as their service should have a warranty period. I wouldn't say I like working with irresponsible companies which do not fulfill their duties. Many businesses initially propose a specific time period, but in the long run, fail to achieve it. I like driveway pavers who use the best types of equipment so that the work is accomplished quickly. I turned to paving contractors dublin for help. They did their job 100%....See More
