Help with Monstera adansonii
Comments (102)Hi all, Thanks so much for your responses!! I got sidetracked by a home reno I was working on but that's all finished now so I have time for plants again. I have not yet taken the monstera out of the pot and continues to have yellowing. I am making it a priority to peek at the roots this week, I'll let you know what I find!! Lauren, I wanted to ask you again about your Black and Gold Cactus and Succulent mix. I know we talked about it a couple times and last fall you had good results with it for an arrowhead. How has the plant done in the meantime? Any other good or bad news with that mix? I'm thinking it might be a more appropriate medium for this monstera and I'm even considering it for a hart's tongue fern as those need superior drainage......See MoreMonstera adansonii/obliqua/friedrichsthalii
Comments (5)Check out the discussion in this post: http://forums2.gardenweb.com/discussions/4088515/help-with-monstera-adansonii?n=24 "adansonii is the same as friedrichsthalii. What's confusing is that juvenile forms of my adansonii never have as many holes as my friedrichsthalii, the latter stays much smaller. But the leaf shape, texture and color are the same on both. Adansonii is a fast-growing, rampant 'weed' in and outside my shadehouse and I'm constantly pulling runners from the ground and off vertical surfaces where it tries to climb. I've thrown out garbage cans full over the years." - Russ in the linked thread You may also be interested in this article: http://www.exoticrainforest.com/Monstera%20adansonii%20pc.html...See MoreMonstera adansonii / obliqua yellowing leaves
Comments (14)Thanks for your help, tropicbreesent. I will repot it with an orchid mix and try just keeping the soil slightly moist, rather than watering deeply and letting it dry completely between waterings. Hopefully this does the trick! (And do you think it is worth it to keep a pebble tray beneath for added humidity in the air?) If anyone else has thoughts, I'd welcome them too! (Including about where I could buy another of these plants!) Thanks again!...See MoreMonstera adansonii not growing
Comments (2)I'm not experienced with that. I've seen several similar-looking Philodendron 'swiss cheese' but never had any. Last summer I planted 2 ailing indoor plants outdoors in ideal spots and they perked up and ended up doing well. Both were aroids: EE's. This spring I did that with 4 more indoor plants that were on the fence: 1 Caladium, 1 Elephant Ear(Yautia?), 1 banana, & 1 Ligustrum bonsai and they've all perked up except for the Ligustrum. It is doing worse. I removed 50% of the Ligustrum roots in the fall so I could place it in a smaller pot. Maybe that was too much of a shock. All but the Ligustrum have cages or small fence around them to keep rodents from chewing them. (BTW - this evening I found a nest of rabbits just 12 inches from the Ligustrum) The plants all have ideal light, wind protection, and water. 5 out of 6 is not bad and I am not certain why that has worked. If it's the warm season in your part of the world and you have an outdoor growing area, that might be worth a try. Protected Yautia or Eddoes...not sure: Ligustrum on top right:...See MoreSammantha Hunt
