At the rate and level you use a propane heater, it may not have the same effect on your plants... it may not be enough to affect anything... it may be that certain plants aren't as adversely affected by the exhaust, either. I'm not really sure. I just remember very clearly all the poor Poinsettias dropping wrinkled, yellowed leaves... some of the plants wilting and dying... it was quite a loss. I think if you're circulating a little fresh air into the mix, you will avoid any possibility of bad effects. Good air circulation is important for enclosed growing spaces, so it's something we do commonly, anyway. I'm so glad to hear you are getting some relief from cortisone shots! That's great news! :-) My husband went through the cortisone shots decades ago, when they first were trying to treat his damaged spine. They worked on a temporary basis, but the damage is too great, I think. He's been through every treatment there is, except actual surgery... which we refuse to go through. There are no guarantees he would come through any surgery without becoming completely paralyzed, and we're just not willing to take the chance, until he already is paralyzed. At that point, we have nothing to lose by trying. Of all the people we know who have gone under the knife for back problems... and that includes quite a few people... not one has gotten the results they expected, and a few are worse for having had surgery. We don't like the odds. And we can't afford the best surgeons or the best treatments, so we're kind of stuck. The last treatments he had were some steroid injections, which seem to have given him more range of motion in his neck, which is a good thing... but his back is about the same. It's trashed. I'm in better shape than he is... but we're both what we call "semi-crippled", or actually semi-disabled. Oh, well... what can you do? We just roll with the punches... life goes on! It's nothing spectacular... just a small 10'x12' Harbor Freight special. We got it on sale, and had a carpenter friend put it up for us. It's not heated, so I only use it through 3 seasons, then I empty it out. I linked the album below, if you want to take a peek, though. African Violets are so pretty, but I haven't had much luck growing them. They always seem to die on me. I'm very lucky to get the few orchids I have to stay alive and limp along! In fact, I freaked myself out earlier... I went to mist the Phal I recently transplanted into a new pot... it was dying in the moss the grower had it in... and I noticed that the tiny little Dendrobium keiki that Chaz sent me several years ago is throwing up its very first buds!!! It's the first or second picture on the first page of my 2011 photo album. I'm so stoked!! I actually kept it alive, and it's decided to gift me with blooms! I couldn't be happier! See? This is one of those wonderful moments in life that I would have missed if I hadn't been taking my time, looking carefully at all my plants... it's just amazing! :-) I hope I didn't jinx it into dropping its buds! ;-) Oh, anyway... I'm thrilled you are getting a light setup and growing Gesneriads... that's so cool! :-) And you now have a nice spot to enjoy Hippi blooms, too! Whew! What a day it's been! Hi, Hoyamom! Be sure to post photos of your Cognac bedroom. Bronze was the original color I asked EK to make for me, but I, too, thought it might be too dark for such a large area, and to carry up the stairs into the game room, so she adjusted it and came up with Cognac. I still like the Bronze and might repaint one day. Both the Bronze and Cognac have a good bit of green in them, so I went with the more green blues when I selected fabrics for chairs and in accessories, although she did make up Dusk for the dining room ceiling and accent wall with the Cognac, which is more of a true blue. I'm not a matchymatchy person, but I do feel for larger upholstered pieces and rugs the blues with a hint of green work better with the Cognac or the Bronze. Teals, golds, browns, cream and red are the colors I would try first with these EK colors. Of course most any color would be fine (but I can't see lemon yellow or clear, cool colors working very well). These colors have worked best for me. It's truly sad I can't seem to get an accurate photo of Cognac--the flash always washes it out. Here are a few photos with the colors I have used, perhaps this will help: I don't have much burgundy in this house, but this painting has some and I like it with the Cognac walls; window treatments and fabrics in this color (of course with other colors to tone down the contrast) I think would be stunning. Keep me posted, I do want to see photos.

I've been hanging around GW for more years than I care to admit, sucking up color knowledge. Both Amy and Lori are experts in their field and have been willing to continually educate the rest of us, sometimes dragging us kicking and screaming away from the Laura Ashely golds (remember those??) or Baby Turtle, Revere Pewter or whatever the *it* color of the moment is on these boards. Had to get most of the work done in advance because it's too much to do at appointment time. There's a max of 2 hrs on site and about 1 hr on line. At the 1 or 2 hr mark you start losing people because it's a lot of work. Even tho I managed the overwhelm and got all chaos under control before hand, there's still a lot of work to do. If I didn't do prep in advance, then I'd use up too much time assessing the scope of work, going over where they've been, what they've tried, and where they want to go. In other words, with every client there's a mental bandwidth budget and I had to spend our time together wisely. Appointment time had to be about ideation and actionable items and it didn't matter if I was physically in your kitchen or if you were in your kitchen online Skyping with me. Your smartphone, monitor, laptop, tablet, all use a VERY small color space called sRGB to display colors. What that means is the number of colors a device is physically able to display is a SUPER tiny fraction of the number of colors we can see in real life. Therefore, when people claim that they are able to see "undertones", extraordinary color details and nuances, it is pure hyperbole. Fact of the matter is, it is impossible for average devices to display a wide gamut of color. A wide range of colors, alleged undertones, and detailed color aspects are just not there see. They’re not there for ANYBODY to see – experienced designer, gifted eye, trained eye, or whatever. Photos are good for getting a sense of light/dark value balance in a space, contents in the room, volume of space, and fenestration. When you use spectral data like Twyla does, you look at the room, light, and contents from a different perspective. Every space will offer up clues about the quality of light you have to work with. Because it's color DNA, the process for interpreting those clues is the same whether you're on site or working virtually -- the process, the system for developing custom color strategies is the same. Ultimately, the final color decisions have to be made by the homeowner. If I did my job defining and explaining the best options, then I didn't need to be standing in the same room in order for them to make them. Hope that helps.
