Question re Irridescent Shark (catfish) babies????
Comments (12)Sherry....to take pics of your fish with an SLR....not sure what slm is .....all you have to do is take your pic on an angle to the glass......so the flash doesn't reflect back....if you use a flash.....you can also use top lighting from your aquarium and no flash...but this will result in duller or darker pics. When fish are first hatched they stay stuck to the plant or surface where they hatched.....they look like shimmering sticks with a egg sac for a belly....once the egg sac is absorbed they go freeswimming....if they are id sharks...its probably a good thing your bala eat them...sad but true. What did head quarters say about selling plants with fish eggs on.......that has to be a really rare occurance? They hung up on you.....geez. Hmmm......shipping fish shouldn't be a problem.....the fish are shipped to the stores in large white styofoam containers.....depending on the stores location...they stay in there for 3 days. I have brought back discus from a breeder that was a two day trip...all was fine. I brought back goldfish from a wholesaler I was visiting ...that was also a two-day trip. I have had fish bused to to me taking 18 hours.......If they are packed correctly and in the styrofoam coolers....and clearly marked with big black lettering.....LIVE FISH...FRAGILE they should arrive fine. Comments (11)I think you're right Carol. I will just keep at it and hope I'll eventually see more. This may be my last try with Pentas. They're always the same size at the end of the summer as when I first plant them and never have more than two flower clusters at a time. There must be a secret I don't know yet. I grew Butterfly Red last year and another dark pink one and never saw butterflies on them. The butterflies were all over the Butterfly Red at a display garden near here though. They just didn't like mine. My lantana last year grew like gangbusters. It really impressed me. I've been watching for Miss Huff and haven't found it yet. They also had 'New Gold', something Cream that was pale yellow, Flame Improved and a couple others. I need to research which ones they like best....See MoreJust got my first tree!
Comments (19)Just a quick update! The scale has not gotten worse, I've picked off all the ones that are big enough too and I'm assuming the rest are dead and will fall off in time. I only sprayed it once so I guess the only question I have left is if it should be sprayed again eventually to really prevent the problem from coming back again as I've read that it's very hard to COMPLETELY rid the plant of scale. I'd say it's doing very well as far as that goes though! =) The big update though is there seem to have been a bit of changes today! The new growth that I posted a picture of earlier is even bigger and looks great, though it is still very small haha. Also I've noticed what looks like new growth around all of the places where my leaves meet branches. They're very small right now however many of them I've noticed a purple-ish color to them! Which I'm guessing means my tree may do some flowering soon!!! Hopefully very soon this will make my study room smell fantastic =) either that or I've heard just new growth can start out with a purple-ish color to it in which case my tree will just be growing more and will be able to flower/fruit more in the future! Thanks Mike and John for the help and also calming me down =) I'm sure if I didn't have some help and advice from you guys I would have "cared" the tree to death! I'll probably post some pictures soon! =) I'm very excited!...See MoreQuick question about 2 year old kerdi tub with mold
Comments (3)It sounds like a simple tub and caulk problem, not really an issue with the Kerdi. Do you recall if the tub's flange was fastened to the wall studs? Normally a nail goes through the flange into each wall stud. That'll prevent some vertical movement/deflection at the flange. I can't say if adding under-support will help at this time. If you hear squeaking and creaking when you're in the tub, that could be a sign of movement. Do you see any movement at the flange when the tub is loaded and unloaded (water, bathers, etc)? Or do you think that the original caulk failed simply due to a one-time "after installation shift" and that the tub is now settled in place? I'd pull the existing caulk. Clean, let dry. Load the tub. Then install silicon. As far as the mold returning, realize that bleach will only kill the surface mold, but not the mold's "roots", so the mold can grow back since it was never killed in the first place. Household bleach is about 6% "bleach" and 94% water. When put on grout or wood, due to its polarity the bleach stays on the surface of the material. It doesn't penetrate into the material. Only the water penetrates. So when you bleach a porous material, you are indeed killing the surface mold, but the water is feeding the mold's roots. Not a truly technical description of what happens. But that's why bleach itself isn't an approved "mold killer"....See Moreilovemytrees
