Cost of Marvin Ultimate vs. Marvin Integrity
Comments (8)windowshopper- I don't know if the dealers will compete. I have about the same number of windows as you, 3 of them are arched casements, plus 7 sets of French doors (5 of them are stationary). I was told that Integrity didn't make the arched windows I needed & I would need to go with Marvin Ultimate for those. I consulted with 4 different dealers-everyone had a different price and no one was willing to compete. One of them deals pretty much just with Marvin & he was the highest of the bunch! When I tried to negotiate and let him know he was significantly higher than other dealers and frankly he was even higher than the quote I got from Pella (which was through the roof), his response was he may not be the least expensive, but I was paying for quality. Quality? No matter where I get the Integrity, it's the same window quality, right? My framer is installing, so installation quality doesn't enter into it. Then he tried to talk me into all Marvin Ultimate because using Ultimate for the 3 arched windows & Integrity for everything else just wouldn't look right. When I let him know there was no way I could afford all Ultimate, he again went on and on about quality & making room for them in the budget. Obviously, he had an agenda & it didn't match mine. With that being said, one dealer is working with the area Integrity rep to see what they can do about getting a better deal especially on the French doors. They came in about double the cost of Jeld-Wen Siteline, M&W Mira & M&W Freedom 800, and just above the Pella Architect price. The windows were all less expensive than the Siteline, Mira, and Pella. We shall see what they come up with! But absolutely nothing wrong with shopping around--if you don't ask for a better deal, you can't expect them to voluntarily offer you one. Let me know how things go & if you find a dealer with rock bottom Integrity & Ultimate pricing!...See MoreMarvin ultimate vs Kolbe & Kolbe vs Peachtree
Comments (15)The window order came in on monday less than four weeks from ordering altho 8 windows are on back order not sure which ones. I am assured by next Wed. latest. We are having the dealer store them for a couple weeks until roofing is finished we have been having major rain delays. From what I could see of the windows in the warehouse they are beautiful. I am regreting the unfinished interior as I will have to prime and paint. I will post pictures if I can figure out how to do it. This is after I track down the dupont flex flash and make sure the installers know how to use it. We have used Zip-Panels for exterior sheathing and are wondering if we should have used tyvek instead. All of this is so installation intensive and since I am at the mercy of the installers... Thank you to all who have posted to help my decision....See MoreKolbe vs Marvin vs Loewen
Comments (1)I think the door choice is mostly aesthetic vs functionality. Both will do a similar job by providing a large opening space with little obstruction on the sill. If you are going to be painting, primed is a good option. Factory finishing is also worthy of consideration. Couldn't hurt to get a Marvin quote....See MoreMarvin Modern, Infinity, and Elevate--which to go with Kolbe VistaLuxe
Comments (5)Hapahaole: I have mostly fixed and casement windows that I'm ordering... However, for my renovation, I had a few awning windows (opened upwards) (The opening mechanism was a "slider" that pushes out the window not a "crank"). The awnings were both in standard window sizes and transoms. I had a group of 3 windows where I did the slider mechanism too (not a crank). I also did a giant full wall slider door....and a massive window (36 ft roughly) where they had to design/build based on structure and weight. We haven't had any issues with our slider (EXCEPT) we got "dividers" in them and since it came unfinished wood, the painters forgot to paint part of the interior slider that when the doors were opened a certain way, you could see it! After construction, they had to carefully remove the door to paint the part they missed (I couldn't watch I was so nervous). After getting a lot of quotes, I recall being surprised that I didn't think the Kolbe VistaLuxe was incredibly much more money, especially since Kolbe was considered higher-end than some of the Marvin lines. It definitely ended up costing more for Kolbe though but that is because I had a lot of "custom" special needs/wants for my windows and we paid an upcharge to my contractor holding him responsible for any fixes/warranties instead of buying the windows on our own and then having him just install. Most Marvin dealers I know are soup to nuts...they will order and do install and then be responsible for workmanship. Some dealers might sub it out to window installers they only use, some have their own crew in house, and others just hire someone to do it. But, with that said, check everyone's warranty for their product line. Good Luck!...See MoreKolbe Windows & Doors
