The models we checked on cost around $1500, with Vanns and AJMadison being good places on-line to check models and prices.

Although who truly determines the longevity of an AC or heatpump are two people: the installer and the customer with proper maintenance. Installation may not be a science, but it's certainly an art. If you an improperly positioned unit low on refrigerant with inadequate supplies/returns and long twisty uninsulated runs etc, it's going to die way sooner. Theoretically my Greenspeed with all DC brushless should outlast a conventional pump as long as it's kept adequately cooled, but ultimately who knows. Again the logic boards these days are way more expensive than the motors, which is why it's imperative nowadays to purchase an additional whole house surge protector. Avoiding ice and water dispensers eliminates a lot of your repair potential so you're ahead there. It has been years since I've called for appliance service so I have no direct reference for costs. Proper diagnosis is required to confirm what's at fault. The one part of question runs $107 to $127 at three online sources I checked (there are more). I don't know how those online prices relate to service prices. Plus trip/diagnosis/labor costs. On the whole this should be a "minor" repair, although I expect the cost may run up to $250/$300. I would go ahead with it if it was my refrigerator. That's still much less cost than a new unit. One may consider there's a warranty on a new refrigerator, but a one year warranty is nothing to trigger excitement.

Michelle, as an owner of a 2017 Monogram range (as well as convection oven), I would have to disagree. My range is close to 600 lbs in weight. The sheet metal is 304 stainless and must be pretty thick because I've been unable to ding it yet. The ovens must be very well insulated because they retain heat extraordinarily well. The full extension (ball bearing) racks you are quick to malign are a joy to use and feature a lifetime warranty. Overall performance has exceeded my expectations and makes cooking a real pleasure. I've owned regular GE appliances in the past. Monogram is a clear step up in quality commensurate with the step up in price. I have recommended Monogram ranges and ovens to friends and family, and helped GE make a few more sales doing so. Everyone has been pleased.
