I am just excited because person doing our cabinets now says he can get a 33 inch sink into the current sink space and still keep the 24 inch dishwasher. So, I now have more sink options. I'll look again at fireclay as suggested, but thinking price is prohibitive and thought there were some negatives to it that I didn't like, but, I will look again. I do prefer stainless for use over cast iron, but love the look of cast iron for an older house. It's not life or death to me either way now that I can fit in a double bowl. I know there are advantages to single, but I've been here 17 years w/a deep single cast iron that was put into last owners remodel, and I still haven't adjusted. My husband and I, as well as our kids all cook, so I know the disadvantage of double w/large pots, but a minor inconvenience for me compared to the trouble of washing dishes in a deep single. I always have so many things that can't go into the dishwasher that I'd prefer the ease (for me) of washing all that extra stuff in the double. As far as stainless showing water spots, I just have too many other cleaning problems to confront that water spots arent' an issue for me. Really, we are a messy family. The stainless drawback for me is really that I'm spending all this money on a 1920's kitchen look and then sticking a stainless sink in it. I still might do it, but the look is what bothers me. If I had a newer kitchen, I'd definitely do stainless. I don't like the breakage either w/cast iron. That's it's biggest drawback for me. Right now, I'm seriously considering the kohler tile-in brookfield, cast iron, because I really, really love the look of a tiled in sink and would prefer losing the dirty edge that comes w/the drop in sink. But, I could change my mind. Oh, and columbusguy, I totally appreciate the way you got your sink. If i could fit an old cast iron w/those built in drainboards, I'd prefer cast iron. Had an apartment w/the drainboards and loved it. We will be putting in a cast-iron pedestal sink we picked up at a garage sale for $12. Cast iron definitely for me outside the kitchen. Oh, and just wondering if you are in Columbus, columbusguy? We just got back from visiting my brother and his family in north columbus, pretty close to OSU campus. Thank you, everyone, for your feedback! My goal was to create a warm, inviting space with neutral walls and floor and lots of color in the accent furnishings. So I agree, akrogirl, that the silver sage curtains seem to be reading too cool for the space. Funny - the very first things I bought for the room were the colorful pillows. Then the sofa and light green chair in front of the window, then the lamp and the red end table. Once I saw them all together, I despaired that they didn't really go, that the room was turning into a hodge-podge. Then I bought the pictures, and like magic, the pictures seemed to tie it all together... (to me, anyway). From the brighter spring green of the arm chair to the cool blue-greens of the lamp and knick knacks (with enough red to tie in the end table and the pillows). So while I agree with wendyb and busybee3 that the silver sage curtains go better in the room, maybe I need to pull in more of the brighter green to keep it from going too blue, too cool? To tie in the green arm chair and the (very warm) picture over the sofa? (Not to mention htnspz's comment about there being enough brown in the room - which is actually part of the reason I decided on a glass top dining table instead a wood top table, though I guess seeing brown chairs through the glass would kind of defeat the purpose!) Actually, htnspz - you mention that I should consider a warmer color for the drapes... not a green? Is there another color you think would work?? So no one has a problem with the wood legs on the green chairs being quite a bit darker than the table? Or with the bright green chairs competing with the red end table (visible on the last two pictures)? Thanks!!!

Our sink was an off-the-shelf, 18 gauge undermount sink. Our fabricator welded it into the countertop, and you really can't tell that they were ever separate. No seams, nice clean lines. You can judge for yourself! It's true that you can't integrate just any sink. It has to be a certain thickness and quality in order to weld it onto the countertop, and the sink manufacturers' specs don't necessarily tell the whole story. The sink may have been made out of 18 or 16 gauge steel, but after it's stamped and stretched into shape, it may no longer be that thick. When we first met up with our fabricator, he was complaining about having just welded a Franke sink into a countertop, because there was so little material to work with, the sink having been thinned out quite a bit during manufacture. The sink we ultimately went with happened to be in the fabricator's shop already, so we bought it off him, and he knew he could weld it.

I have to admit either GHOST or EIFFEL since both are clear have a modern look and Mid Century Modern look - i think that is the term. My place is sadly cluttered (clothes horse and gift aholic). That being said I guess the issues are which in your expert minds do you like or think would look best and we need to consider how difficult they are to set up. EIffel is looking harder. I was leaning to the Eiffel which is the de rigeur everyone from Walmart to Costco to Structube have versions. And you need to know I did my place on the "cheap" - my $12000 leather living room set was for like $2500; I have $4000 coffee/end tables for under $1000, a $3000 piece of art coffee table for 300; a stainless steel bed that was $7000 for $800 and bench I made with 90 dollar Ikea legs for $8. So I am not going to pay much for these chairs maybe $70 Canadian. Eiffel would be cheaper but like $5 per chair from what I can see so far.
