Plumber says up to code before he installs water heater
Comments (8)In my community if you get caught changing a water heater without a permit you get a $1000 fine and you still have to pull a permit and get the installation inspected. If you set the old water heater at the curb for trash pickup you have to write the permit number on the tank with a magic marker or the city trash collectors will turn the address in to code enforcement and they will come check to see if you installed a new tank... Personally, I wouldn't risk it....See MoreTaking 1 leg of 120/240v circuit... up to code/safe?
Comments (3)My basic reading of 630 says that under certain circumstances wire can be undersized based on the duty cycle of the welder. In a residential setting it might be better to run full sized wire to future-proof the circuit recognizing that the next owner might own a different tool and never look at the wire size. If the MIG welder doesn't require a groundED (neutral) conductor, then you don't need to use a 4-wire receptacle but in this case you would need to pull 3 wire (+ ground) cable or 4 wires in conduit for a neutral required for the 120v stick welder....See MoreIs this installation look safe and/or code
Comments (12)petey, there is a couple of areas around me that require plastic NM "staples". They don;t even allow the staples with insulator as acceptable so claiming lack of "pro" is a bit harsh possibly. and "funky" ground tails? I use pre-made tails all the time although not the type with the wing nut included. When you have a boat load of boxes to trim out, that is a lot of tails to make. There is also a tail made with 2 leads so you have a tail with a stake on to attach to the device. Handy in my book. (I don't do NM though and I do understand the methods of the continous ground lead wrapped around the various screws situation y'all do do) Now as far as the backwards NM connector; I'll have to agree on that one. Now the one thing that looks wrong to me but I can't tell for sure but it looks,in the top pic that the face of the box is even with the stud which would not be kosher. It should be set out so the face of the box will be flush with the sheetrock. Could be simply the perspective though not showing the set out of the box. my personal preference is a 4" square box with a round tile ring with the proper depth ring for the sheetrock being used....See Moreelectrical Install and code questions
Comments (4)Ronnatalie, thanks for your input. I don't think they make tandem AFCI breaker either. I'm hoping they consider what I'm doing simple replacement and let it slide otherwise my plan goes out the window. Your right, the existing wire was (I assume) connected to a hot tub. The spa is gone but all the wiring and the disconnect box stayed. They only reason I'd use it is because it's already here. A couple potential problems I forgot in my earlier post: The existing wires are all black with tape to color code the ends. I'm not sure if that is still allowed. And the conduit is just sitting on the ground of the crawl space, not secured to the walls or joists. It's less then a crawl space, more of a belly slide space, but I think they may make me do something there....See MoreDavidR
