Firstly, plenty of water can be good or bad, depending on the drainage (which has to be perfect = best if elevated bed). Too much water can make the bulb rot. Secondly, it is said that lilies do not like 'warm feet', so if in full sun, it is good to plant something to shade their roots(like shallowly rooting annuals or alike). Thirdly, Stargazer and other lilies in the same colour get quickly ugly, dirty colour in full sun, so it is actually better to protect them from hot sunlight. Fourthly, oriental lilies like to grow in acid soil.

Hi Linnea56 Since they were transplanted only a couple weeks ago they haven't had much time to establish so I'd go ahead and move them now. Just be careful when digging to not break off the stem that may be beginning to emerge from the bulb underground and try to disturb the roots as little as possible. The soil should still be pretty soft around them so it shouldn't be too difficult to dig them up gently. But honestly, one of the great things about lilies is that they're not "fussy" plants. If you'd prefer to set them deeper in the Fall, (assuming a new "jungle" hasn't grown up by then), they would grow fine this season. Deeper is just more ideal. -Helen

Your lilies will be bigger next year. Some bulbs which are on the smaller side when planted take an extra year to give full tall growth. Your Stargazers will all bloom together at the same time period once they get established. If you move them in the fall they might be the same size as this year & take one more year to be full size. Planting new bulbs this fall will most likely give you the same size because they too will take the extra year to grow to full size. You could take the Stargazer out this fall & condition the soil which would be good for the plants in the long run. The most important thing to remember is to remove the flower heads once they are done flowering & leave the foliage to turn yellow/brown before you remove the dead stems. Leaving the stems to yellow out feeds the bulb for next year & will give you a stronger plant with more flowers the following year. Never remove the foliage while it is still green or you will weaken the bulbs & have small growth & maybe no flowers. Lilies also like to be kept moist.

These are true lilies (Lilium species) not day lilies (Hemerocallis), which are not lilies at all, despite the common name. And Stargazers, double or single, are oriental lilies with a mid to late summer bloom season. MidJuly is right on schedule!
