Yesterday we visted the Rhodadendron Species Botanical Garden in Federal Way, WA. Amazing place with huge display and conservation garden. OMG the standout there was Rhodadendron edgeworthii from SW China. It's has good sized pink blushed white flowers that hover over and also nestled in with dark dusky green wavy textured leaves. It was powerfully fragrant filling a large courtyard in the plant sales area (and is their best one so they use it for their new plant cuttings source). The scent carries like crazy and people were buzzing around like bees trying to find the source and bask their in bliss. Imagine cloves with pink jasmine with the quality and "waftability" of Hyacinth, Jasmine, Lilac, Carnation, Mock Orange, Citrus flowers, and Lilac.

Don't miss seeing the Pacific Bonsai Museum connected to the vast Rhodadendron Garden.

The Japanese Dragon Arum are in bloom now, this one displayed as a cut flower.

And several Giant Himalayan Lily there from China (Cardiocrinum giganteum v Yunnanese) are developing flower spikes for June flowering. We have a clump at home. The photo above is it flowering last year at 9'. It can get to 12'. I'm mounting a trellis on the wall behind it with Sweet Autumn Clematis and Clematis Warsaw Nike. BTW much like a Brugmansia this species, which bridges between Hosta and Lily, is powerfully fragrant from dusk to dawn and it's beautiful scent carries like crazy. even across to the yard.

Not big enough for you? Cardiocrinum giganteum v giganteum is there too. It can get to 14' with perfect culture, morning sun and heavy feeding. Sub-alpine tropical or cool maritime z 8 to 9.

At my last house in shade. With a one bulb plant at 9.5'.
