Yes it is a Robin but I’ve never seen that before. I don’t think that’s where the eggs are. I’m wondering if it’s more of a growth of some type. Maybe someone else will know more.

That thought actually crossed my mind. Here is another shot where it is more evident.

Upsetting a robin with eggs in a nest

1) Will upsetting the robins occasionally (hanging up laundry 2-3x/day) cause them to abandon the nest? Yes. And if the eggs hatch, you can scare the nestlings out of the nest prematurely. 2) Are there certain times of day that they tend to not be in the nest so I can work around those times? No. 3) Do we need to just avoid the deck area until they hatch and leave the nest? If so, how long is that? The eggs hatch after about 15 days and then the young leave the nest 18-20 days later. We usually hang up all our laundry outside so this is a pain but we do not want to upset the birds. Our 4 children will love to see the eggs hatch. : ) It will be worth the sacrifice. Keep a distance, listen to the chicks' begging cries and watch the parents go to and from feeding them.

Thanks aprilneverends, I appreciate you looking into it! On another note, I was thinking that the technical specs must exist and found them on the Encore online catalogue, which states "Our tile is vitreous and frost resistant. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor applications , areas that experience freeze/thaw conditions, water applications (baths, pools, saunas, steam rooms, fountains, showers), fireplaces and light traffic floors......." Regarding sealing, they suggest the tile needs to be sealed before install (and then after so grout is sealed) and that you should then follow sealing manufacturer suggestions on any future sealing. I need to ask my tile guy about that. The good news is that they are safe for wet applications! And I would still love to see a post/pic from anyone who has installed these tiles :) https://issuu.com/encoreceramics/docs/2017_catalog/54

robin egg blue counter tops!
Q

How long are your sons planning to keep the condo? Is this just while they're at university, or just starting in new jobs? writersblock has a point about replacing the countertop, depending on how much of it there is. I asked about how long they're keeping the condo because it might be a more efficient use of money and time to keep the current countertop if they might ultimately be remodeling the entire kitchen. Yes to painting the walls and not the cabinets. However, I'm not sure that your plans to paint the walls grey ("planning to paint walls grey white ceiling") will work with the countertop, the cabinets, and the flooring. The other thing to consider is that a color that's currently as trendy as grey is will only highlight the older nature of the cabinets and countertop.

Robins egg blue toilet. Yuck!

Yes, agreed. I had a quick look on Home Depot site. Wall hung toilets start at about $200 and go up from there, so it seems you should be able to replace the toilet at the same time as any other work being done. Getting rid of the blue opens up the whole world for colour choices for you. If you are considering your shower replacing the current tub, I recommend you look at this product: Maax Utile They have many different "tile patterns". We have the metro colour installed and we are very pleased with it. We also have the sliding barn style door. I am impressed by the weight of the door and the hardware. There is nothing cheap looking for feeling about this product. A molded base that is easy to clean and not the slightest bit slippery. I like that encaustic tile you've chosen. Have a look at the Utile Origin Arctik colour, maybe that would work with the tile you've chosen. Or the very dark grey/black choices if you used white everywhere else.

That's really weird. I've tried to find an answer on Google, but haven't gotten one. Is the robin acting normal otherwise? I don't really know the anatomy of birds that well, if this is even possible, but when I had chickens, sometimes an egg would get loose from the oviduct and end up in their abdomens. But I don't think the base of the tail is really open to the abdomen. Maybe it's just a growth. I just don't know. I wonder if you have someone around your area who is an ornithologist and you could ask them and show them the picture?

I started to think about that too, but not much thought yet. I am in suburban Chicago. Maybe someone at the Brookfield Zoo. If I come up with something I'll report back.
