Upsetting a robin with eggs in a nest

We recently discovered a nest over the side of our deck which is right near our clothes line. There are 4 eggs. I went out this morning and the adults were gone so I hung up some clothes (it does not disturb the nest in any way). Half way done the adults came back and started squacking from nearby trees. I finished and came back inside. I went out to hang up another load and startled the adult sitting in the nest. They were very agitated and did not move far away and made a lot of noise. I left the laundry and came back inside. So, my questions:

1) Will upsetting the robins occasionally (hanging up laundry 2-3x/day) cause them to abandon the nest?
2) Are there certain times of day that they tend to not be in the nest so I can work around those times?
3) Do we need to just avoid the deck area until they hatch and leave the nest? If so, how long is that?

We usually hang up all our laundry outside so this is a pain but we do not want to upset the birds. Our 4 children will love to see the eggs hatch.
