I've never seen a trout that color, how interesting!

Pretty standard in WV and PA. Both states stock streams and lakes that support trout population.They've been around since '67 or earlier in WV.

It's more of a novelty fish.

Whoever the officer is checking for fishing licences was in complete shock that Tim caught this. Today is kids day fishing which is why the boys were fishing. No one can assist the kids in catching. My son is holding it for the photo but I do have one of Tim holding it.

Chi in our case it was a catch, quick photo, weight and length measurment and release. We arnt eating it and we have taught the boys to either eat or release.

Golden rainbows are not something that you will find everywhere. They are a man-made invention, reproduced solely for the entertainment of anglers in a few rivers in a few states. States that offer golden rainbow trout fishing are making a lot of money.

They are raised to legal size in a fishery, then released close to the day that trout season opens. They grow rapidly, a result of hybrid vigor. The sport reminds me of the doves or quail that are raised in crates, then released on cue right in front of hunters' shotguns.

The fish can't recreate themselves in nature and because of their color, don't survive in the wild. A few weeks or months after their release date, they will be gone.

Mama, I have never tried this, and heard it from gardening friends/forums... take a picture, post in in google images and it will tell you what it is, if it can recognize it.

DH and I are avid fisher-people. ( If that is the right word these days :-) ) I remember the kids catching a golden now and then and how thrilled they were with it. Kids fishing derbys are the best!

Golden trout is the state fish of California I live an hour
or so from the Golden Trout Wilderness on the upper Kern River. The golden
trout pictured is nothing like the native golden trout here in California
