Size of outside lights next to front door
Comments (10)Joyce, you're in the exact situation i'm in! I decided on a light above the space of the front door, rather than hanging style. Matching lights are on each side of the barn-style single garage doors. At the time of the build, I guess I was too 'consumed' w/interior lighting to think about the exterior. Here are pics of Jack Arnold homes, as that's what i've been trying to replicate, w/o the high price tag~~Allison here on the forum is fortunate to have a JA home. Anyway, you get a good idea of relationship to size. Picture #2 is how my porch light is hung, but not that large. It's also the style of fixture i'm considering~~what I have now is a round style. What is the style you're thinking of using? ;o) Here is a link that might be useful: pictures...See MoreHow do I lay out living room in the front of the house with staircase?
Comments (10)I haven't any feedback for your LR question, but I wonder how much you are wedded to the 1/2 bath. I know most people would not agree with me, but I personally would rather have a shorter, clearer shot to the kitchen and to A bathroom from the garage, by making a separate entrance through the half bath, and adding another door from it into the one main bathroom. Or if two toilets are considered mandatory, I would rather think of a way to incorporate another bath upstairs to serve as an emergency bathroom which then would function for the upstairs area. The way you have it, to haul groceries or anything from the garage one has to go clear through the living room and all the way around. And coming home needing to go to the bathroom, the same. Also, for safety reasons, I would rather have exit doors in different areas. Sorry, hope you don't offense since a critique of your plan is not what you are asking!...See MoreHow do we finish the outside cladding around the front door? X-post
Comments (0)This was cross-posted on building a home forum. Not sure which one is more applicable. Hi, We have a dilemma in terms of finishing the cladding around our new front door (excuse the construction dust on the new door). The board and batten juts out further than the brick, which means the lower half of the door is not fully cladded as per the photos below. Not sure if we should fill the gap with some dark brown stained wood like door trim, the greige body colour of the house, grey flashing, or something else. How would you recommend we finish these gaps? Thanks! Full house (since photo we have added the coach lights). The deck over the garage is still not done.
