Yes, you are probably right. Ah, the wise voice of someone not directly in my shoes. I was so hoping to be able to be okay without them. I think the SuperBowl set it off. Sheila loved football and the SuperBowl. I was okay last year and thought I would be this year but obviously not. I did well with her birthday in January, and am hoping to not be too bad with the anniversary of her death. Only time will tell. You are right. When we laugh and have a happy moment we do seem to think we are betraying them. I can't remember if I said this on your mama thread but I used to wonder how in the world the sun even DARED to come up when my sister was gone! But I am sure like you said she would not want me this way. And in a way, I am happy for her because she is now with her baby she lost so many years ago. He died when he was 2 days old and that was in 1966. He would have lived if he had been born with the technology of today and I know she was so bitter about it. She did not like children and I believe that was why. She, in a lot of ways, was very unhappy while she was here. So I have to try to remember not to begrudge her being with her baby. So hard to remember sometimes. Well I suppose I had get off here and feed the two dogs and two cats their supper. They are paceing and circleing like sharks! I had the exact same experience as rivkadr with my Boris. I know what started it - I was trying to transition him to a better quality wet food from the meat flavored cereal he'd been eating his whole life. He turned up his nose but I figured when he got hungry enough he'd eat. Wrong answer. I did not realize how much weight he'd lost until I found him limp and almost unresponsive on my closet floor. I was shocked when I picked him up, he was a bag of bones. I missed this mostly because he never was a cuddly cat, very aloof, and I just never handled him much. He was so jaundiced it looked like someone had colored the skin around the inside of his ears with a yellow highlighter. We got a feeding tube inserted into his neck and I had to syringe feed him pureed food and meds 4-5 times a day, at first he would projectile vomit the few cc's I could get into him right back up. Not fun. I also had to give him sub-Q fluids twice a day. He was so weak the first few weeks he couldn't stand and needless to say needed a lot of bathing. I remember crying my head off the first time I saw him eat again on his own. He is once again fat and happy, eating his meat flavored cereal - and has turned into a real lover boy. He's curled up next to me as I write this. Fatty liver is really hard and expensive to get through but I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

"Liver disease" is not a very specific diagnosis. There are literally hundreds of different things that can cause liver disease- hepatic lipidosis (which can be a result of ANY disease), infection (bacterial, fungal, protozoal, parasitic), portosystemic shunt, immune-mediated, FIP, FeLV, FIV, cancer, etc. Some problems are more manageable than others but the treatment varies a bit depending on the cause. Of course tube feeding is very important for any cat that's not eating on his own, so keep that up. Has your cat been tested for FeLV and FIV? Hopefully it's something simple that can be treated medically. Poor kitty. Keep him fed and loved- that's the most important thing right now. If you have a specific diagnosis maybe I can help a little more.

There is absolutely no doubt that a good healthy balanced diet is best for all conditions including diabetes. No arguments at all there. Balanced being the important term. I have undergone multiple diabetes education classes, seminars, workshops etc. I get it. I'm living it. What is upsetting to me and I am sure to anyone else that has type 2 the constant implication that we are second class citizens, and don't deserve to have medical research money spent on us like in the article quoted because we are responsible for our disease. That is so far from the truth and it is beyond hurtful to hear it. That the public is being raped because money is spent on research to help save our lives, we are not worthy of the same treatments as a patient with cancer, or any other deadly disease. That is exactly how it came across in both posts. And believe me we hear it all the time. The diabetes forums are so many people expressing this same feeling, being looked down upon, spoken to with disgust. I spent my entire life being a degreed, licensed, medical researcher fighting to find cures for diseases and help for genetic related conditions. Because I am a Geneticist. I did go to medical school. I did pay my dues. I did everything in my power to try to help people no matter what disease they had. I worked on cancer protocols, diabetes protocols, hepatitis, all types of genetic illness in pregnancy, I spent years working on the Human Genome project as did all geneticists. So to hear someone so easily say that " Another pill to treat a disease that is due to sugar, sucrose, high fructose corn syrup, whatever you want to call it!" How belittling. And express that money should not be spent on that research, what instead we should be simply left to die because God forbid we got the damn disease that is caused by sugar? See how that could just possibly stab me in the heart and be a little upsetting? Believe me I am not the only one feeling this right now. Would anyone have ever said the same thing about a new drug that was found to reverse breast cancer?
