my first square foot garden layout
Comments (6)Thank you for the help. The broccoli is one I typed that in wrong. The peas and beans will be enough for our family so I won't add any. The squash I'll cut back- good catch because squash in our area grows wild. The tomatos we've built stakes for..although I have them growing in the house and one set is now four feet tall and just started flowering like crazy so I'm worried our stakes will be too short.. I only have two trellis systems but I could add another. I always had huge gardens growing up but this is our first garden in our new home and space is limited as I need to share it with four kids and a dog and a husband whose worried I won't be able to really grow all this stuff in these tiny boxes so we compromised on three but I'm sure I could fill thirty if he let me:) I think I need to add a fourth for the pumpkins and watermelon to share....See MorePlease check my first sq ft garden layout.....
Comments (4)Two comments: First, only indeterminate (vining) tomatoes can be grown in 1 sq. ft. I think that Roma tomatoes are determinate (bush) and cannot be trained up a trellis. You can replace it with an indeterminate paste tomato such as San Marzano or sausage. Second. I don't know the orientation of your garden, but consider that a wall of tomato plants casts a substantial shadow. For this reason it is generally reccomended that the trellis be placed along the north side of your bed. As you've laid it out, the tomatoes will shade either your herbs or your peas (which won't be bad if your peas are spent by the time the tomatoes reach a good size). Also, cukes and tomatoes sharing a trellis can work (it has for me), but the cukes might not get as much light as they need to be super productive....See Moreapartment remodel - look for interior designer or architect first?
Comments (3)Is your space a loft? Talk to your building manager first. See what suggestions he has. All that concrete leads me to believe changing out plumbing would be an issue. You may have an abutter who wants to do a bathroom reno and if you share a wall the cost could be significantly lower. My daughter found out from her manager there was an architect in the building who had done several of the apartments before and she knew everything there was to know about the building. My daughter hired her and then all the people who worked for the manager. Clean, neat and fast were the results....See MoreLiving Room Help! First Apartment Ever
Comments (4)Hello Carolyn, Thanks so much for the measurements and pictures. Great job. You have a good start going there. If it was me I would open the layout up by moving the beautiful red chair into your candelabra corner along with your little side table. What about putting your candelabra to the left of the TV? Can your tree go into the corner that you have your electric piano and the can it go on the wall to the left of the closet? Maybe not but it never hurts to ask. :-) What about a white area rug?
