Problem with my Echeveria

Hello, I‘d be very happy if someone helped me with my echeveria dying. I recetly got into succulents and I could never love a plant more with all the varieties. The most problematic one I have this beautiful echeveria. Let me start from the very beggining. After three weeks I had bought this plant, its two of the mid leaves started to pucker until they almost dried out. I watered them but I thought I watered it so little (because the soil just dried up in a day) I watered it a bit more after two days, but it really did not solve the issue, if not, all the mid sec leaves have started to pucker one by one very fast. I kept it indoor by a south side window for three weeks before but after I observed that it was « stretching, I got it outside and it’s been there basking in direct sunlight for two days. So here is the story and I am anticipating your comments. Is it root rot, or not enough sun or whatever else?? your help is much appreciated!!

From what I can see, your soil doesn't have very good drainage- if it's the soil it came in from the store or nursery, you definitely need to repot it into better draining soil (you can do this by removing as much of the old soil from the plant's roots and replanting it into soil that is a combination of cacti & succulent soil and perlite, both of these can be found fairly easily). When you water your echeveria, you need to make sure the water is draining all the way through and out of the hole in the bottom of the pot. Also, take it out of that larger pot, the humidity that builds up between the pots will promote root rot. With regards to sun, succulents need to get used to the sun, with an acclimatisation period- leave it outside in the sun for a short period of time to start with, starting in the morning sun which isn't so strong. As time goes on, increase the time it spends in the sun so that it gets used to it.

Okay, I'll be looking into the coarser mix as you know. Everything else has done well. Do the Pachyphytums and Echeverias need a coarser mix than all the others here? These 3 are the only ones seemingly damaged by handling or over watering. The problem I don't have documented on the first one is the lower leaves basically shriveled up, not completely but got very limp as well on their way out, so I cut them off today. You know far more than I might ever Jeff. Hi Charli, don't have a name for you but I can tell this plant is not getting enough light. See the big gaps between the leaves? If it were getting proper lighting it would be tighter leaves and more compact. The stem looks to me like it is underwatered. Too much water usually will rot it and make it soft. Multiple plants together is fine. My advice is to add more sunshine. Tracy

This is strange. Your plant looks like something spilt on it. Maybe scale but doesn't look like it. If it were mine I would get some rubbing alcohol and q-tips and rub down the scabby parts. You can mix the alcohol with water if you'd like. You should also separate this plant from your other plants. Check the soil to and see what's going on there also. Good luck :)

It may just be the photo as neither have been watered in 3 weeks or so, the soil is quite sandy so that may be why it looks wet, not sure if it's any good but it's cactus focus succulent and cactus soil; will definitly be adding some perlite/pumice on your recommendation as it doesn't seem to have anywhere near that kind of ratio! :) I think my zone is 9a (I just looked it up) so not sure what that would mean! Have also added some photos from the side to see if this will help, good idea! leaves are firm and don't fall off easily (according to my mum as unfortunately i'm on holiday at the moment so can't see for myself), she said she gave them a gentle wiggle and they seemed well attatched. From a perspective of watering I always water from the bottom or very carefully under the leaves, I'm as confused as you are as I thought they were rotting but she's checked everything I've asked and is adamant they don't show those signs other than the colour :/ thanks for all your help everyone! Maybe it's nothing to worry about, just hard not to worry as I can't see for myself and they weren't this way when I left apart from very mild discolouration in the bluebird (which is now worse!)
