Velvety-leafed mystery plant with arching canes?
Comments (2)Wow! I think you've got it! I was a bit dubious, but I went and pinched a leaf and what do you know, it smells unmistakeably sagey! I'm so used to salvia; this is new to me. Looking online, I see the flowers are quite obvious. (I guess I need to pay more attention this year!) Thanks so much!...See MorePatio vine, dark green oval leaves
Comments (8)Thanks for the ID; it does indeed look like a match for Mandevilla. That third photo above looked originally like part of the main plant, but was a neighbor's vine creeping under the fence and through the Mandevilla. Below is a photo with other plants cleared away. The Mandevilla is in the ground, so it's not going anywhere. Other GW posts lead me to believe it can tolerate a hard pruning, so I've trimmed off quite a bit of the ailing leaves. I'll look forward to spring so I can see what sort of blooms it might have....See MoreCouple of mystery hostas - would like your shots in the dark
Comments (5)LOL Ken, I stuffed those in that spot late last year. It's not really a full-fledged garden, just an oak tree that was boring and homeless hostas that got paired up. In light of hosta safety from lawn mowers, I put the small eyes relatively close to the oak to avoid the mower blades. I can move them out if they get too crammed, but I kind of like the look of it with certain varieties. I typically plant now and create the garden later. So far, I've not received approval from hubby to put in a formal edging and make a "real" garden because of proximity to the neighbors. I suppose one way around it is to get rid of the grass and forego the edging, but I'd rather be working on grass removal in areas I won't have to perform that task again (areas I can edge). At the very least, I'll probably pull a few clumps of grass this spring, mulch with oak leaves and call it a day. It's a good thing you called me on the hosta abuse, they will thank you, Ken :-)...See MoreDark pink mystery rose
Comments (10)Busyasabee gave me a rooted cutting of this rose at the last Mid-Atlantic plant swap. It's got a couple of buds, so I'll try to take a close-up photo of the flowers when they bloom. Meanwhile, I've posted a photo that B. sent me of the bush on the Rose Gallery - it's probably the same one that she tried to link to. As you can see, it's a really pretty shrub! Here is a link that might be useful: Mystery rose on the Rose Gallery...See MorePatricia
