What to do with this built in bookcase in family room?
Comments (37)The tv is currently on the opposite wall from the bookcase. This is our main room and right next to the kitchen, so a tv has to stay in this room. Probably getting a 65 inch. Yes, the one cabinet has wine glass holders there, but I don't think I want that set up as a bar there. The shelves above it used to have wine holder racks too, but I took that out. Ss a bar in the family room normal? This room is visible and centered fro the front door/foyer. (We had the sofa facing the fireplace when this picture was taken)...See MoreFamily room is out-of-date
Comments (5)I like the river rock! How about space under the stairs for ski racks and boot holders or a boot warmer. or that little hallway seen in the second photo. you need a small bench thre too. Different color paint and furniture will work wonders. Make sure when you get a sleep sofa that is a comfortable one; one that doesn't have a bar across the middle and a mattress sloping like a ski mountain. I researched mine very carefully and went with American Leather which is much pricier but not going to cripple my visitors. I'd do a nice brown leather. Perhaps put the TV on an extension swivel arm near the corner so that it can be put up and out the way but pulled lower down when you want to watch and you don't need to drill into rock As it is in a ski resort, do a kilim ottoman table with storage in it for linens, warm kilim throw pillows. a faux fur throw on the sofa, a warm rug to match, (maybe an animal hide rug ) a small scale arm chair or a bench with coordinating cushion fabric in the corner where the tv stand (which I'm sure is going) is now. i'd change out the ceiling fan for something without those victorian shades. I had a ski house and i loved decorating it with warm colors, woven fabrics , antique accessories, western inspired influences....See MoreWhat should we do with cut out between kitchen and family room?
Comments (11)Hi. Lots of opportunities here! First, if you are doing any renovation, you might consider opening up the kitchen and family room. Short of that, other ideas I would consider are 1) Put a dimmer on the kitchen lights 2) Change the direction (add eyeball lights) for the lights nearest to the family room (if appropriate). 3) Put in smaller bulbs (eg instead of BR40 (large size), you could try BR30 (smaller size) 4) Eliminate the lights nearest to the family room. 2) Change the floor plan of your family room. I would need more information on your kitchen to see if some of my options would work. Need photos of all 4 walls of family room also. Thanks so much!...See MoreWhat can I do with this family room?
Comments (12)IMO a to scale and all measurements clearly marked plan is what we need and pics of your furniture and how big is the TV. I like TV seperate from my LR if at all possible and for sure if used for gaming. Is it possible to move the TV out of the spac einto an unused bedroom maybe . Post the plan there are lots of talented people here to give advice but they all need the to scale plan It is easier to do on graph paper BTW and show all windows door ways and all measurements clearly marked...See Morelshack17
