Ooh that is a beauty!

I have had Sweet Beauty for 2 years (grown from bare root). The fragrance is wonderful! I've had it's sport parent Buxom Beauty...and it stayed small for a few years, but now is vigorous with lots of blooms. I expect the same from Sweet Beauty. Natureinspired - I tried your suggestion and yes it’s more fragrant in the morning! I would describe the fragrance intensity on a similar level as Bolero or Munstead Wood but lacks the complexity of either…no rich base or wafting high notes. It’s a very familiar hybrid tea / florist rose scent. The young growth is definitely red. Your bloom looks like a different petal count though…or there variation with Mr. Lincoln’s petal count? I also took a photo of the underside of the leaf. It’s pale and the leaves closer to the base of the plant have a bit of a reddish tinge to the underside. There are no other buds do I couldn’t get a picture of that but I’ll see if it sets hips later and get a photo. Rosecanadian - Maybe in our climates Mr. Lincoln stays small and not as fragrant as for people more south. I recall seeing somewhere (maybe on HMF) that Mr. Lincoln is listed as zone 7(????)…how are we growing them then? I don’t winter protect any of my roses at all.

Omar, First of all, any tree rose that is not given protection both top growth and trunk will have a difficult time with winters in your zone 6, Toledo area. As far as a tall hybrid tea that is vigorous and disease resistant you can't go wrong with Dee-Lish. In my garden it is very vertical, holds its blooms upright, is very fragrant, and as I wrote earlier a very black spot resistant rose. It is classed as a hybrid tea, but in reality it is a grandiflora. The breeder has the option of declaring its class, so Meilland, the breeder chose to classify it as a hybrid tea. Growth wise, it grows tall and slender, but not narrow, and has a flower that is English garden type, not formal, exhibition type hybrid tea. That said it is very beautiful. I have three growing in my garden. Its canes are pretty rigid and strong, no lax growth. A second rose that you may consider is First Crush. It is a disease free very vertical bush, tall and abundant bloomer. Two others that also are very vertical and disease resistant are Sweet Mademoiselle and Madame Anisette. I don't have any of these three in my garden yet, but if in the future I need a vigorous, tall, columnar, disease resistant rose they will be first for consideration. Moses
