Living room refresh! Ideas?

We would like to get new furniture in our living room and repaint. The space is 18 ft L 13 ft W not including dining room area behind couches in picture.
What configuration of furniture would suit the space best? A sectional? Two new couches, or couch and chairs, etc?
For paint, what color(s) would work well to lighten up the space and complement Benjamin Moore Gray Owl that is in the adjoining kitchen and sun room areas? The current colors are BM Richmond Gray (all walls) except window wall and dining room ceiling which are BM Old Salem Gray. Trim and bookcase are BM Chantilly Lace.
I'm considering changing out the chandelier in the dining area also to add better lighting as otherwise there are no other ceiling lights in the space. Thoughts?

Initial thoughts: Slimmer scaled furniture perhaps couch w 2 slim chairs (i.e. wood frame & cushion) in front of the window, leaving empty space where loveseat is. The rug needs to be nearly double the current size. The existing look is very heavy and weighted all to one side, from the large solid couch and loveseat and blocky table, to the dark upholstery next to the medium dark floor. Wait on the paint color until you select furniture. The dark dining set on the darkish floor contribute to the overall heaviness here. A fun rug (large) there would define the space and relieve the darkness.

Just a couple of thoughts...I second the suggestion to remove the doors that you don't use. It will dramatically change the look of that wall. You would then need to measure from corner to casing to determine whether the sofa could be moved there. However, I also think your current set-up is fine. Regarding replacing vs. recovering the sofa: you are right...cost-wise it's a wash. I wouldn't go to the cost and effort to reupholstered unless the sofa is very well-made and you love it. I would also go darker rather than lighter on the sofa for longevity's sake. Finally, I would keep the art piece you have until you find something that you can't live without. Its current position needs to be lowered so it relates to the table beneath.

I think I'd go for a red-based kilim or Persian rug that has multiple colors you can pick up in the pillows, and that has a similar blue to your chair. Get it in a larger size than your current one and have a portion of it go under your sofa. This one has a vintage look to it which gives it some character. I'd also consider getting one large framed piece of art to go over the chaise portion of your sectional. Those two smaller pieces are dwarfed on that wall. Alternatively, turn that wall into a salon style gallery wall, like this: Lastly, if you want a warmer feeling, I'd change your wall paint color to some more sage-y or even a light beige or warm white.

Hi Beverly, I did order samples of the wallpapers. I’m afraid you’re right about my choice being too busy. Additionally, it’s a large pattern and might be too broken up on my dining room walls which don’t have large expanses visible. Sigh, I’m starting to rethink my whole project. When I look at my inspiration rooms, almost all feature a healthy dose of my favorite colors, blue and green. I love my living room rug but I think the orange is so dominant and likely precludes my use of blue or green. I’ve booked an in-home consultation with an interior designer and hope she can point me in a better direction.
