I've never spent that much for sheets. Linen has a high rate of shrinkage...right? Do you like them and why?

Nicole I haven't bought thru Brooklinen but have friends that love this company some of who come to the KT occasionally.

Forgot. Lol. Linen isn't shrinking anymore than cotton. I do like linen for its outstanding ability to breath. I adore linen kitchen towels also.

Aw Thank You Stacey. I'm sure you have wonderfully clean laundry. ..I'm just weird. LOL

You'd faint if you saw how I do laundry, haha. I mix everything together, use the same settings for all of it and the same detergent. Seems to work fine but my clothes aren't really very dirty.

Chi. I don't drink not even wine but I think I need a glass NO forget the glass I need a bottle. LOL. JK if it works for you Chi that's all that matters..but just for my sanitys sake..tell me you don't use cold water. Haha

I wash our cloths the same way Chi does & I always use cold water. Cloths come out clean every time. Washed this way for years now.

As for cold water washing..I don't know what to say. LOL. I use hot or very warm because removing the body oils from my textiles is important to me not to mention I like knowing dust mites are killed. Two thing everyone deals with. I also prefer sanitizing things like dish towels with thermal sanitation rather than chemical. We all have our own procedures that work for us but no one seems to explain to me how the body oils are removed and the mites are killed using cold water so I'll continue using hot. LOL

I grew up washing in cold water because my parents said it didn't matter, and they wanted to save on energy and money, and have the clothes last longer.

As for body oils and dust mites, I just don't worry about anything that might survive a wash cycle with detergent and time in a hot dryer. I usually wash on warm, as that's the default, with an organic, non-toxic detergent, and a regular cycle in the dryer.

I don't really wash germy things as I use paper towels for cleaning toilets, etc.

Chi I bet you do wash a few germy things that you haven't thought of...LOL...Your unmentionables Hahaha. Did you know that if tested our most private under garment will most likely test positive for E-coli. Not enough to freek you out but I wouldn't wash them with my kitchen towels. LOL.....Your supposed to chuckle here.

lol well no, I wouldn't wash underwear with anything used on dishes! If the underwear inspector ever comes by, i'll make sure to wash in hot water. :)

I bought a set and returned them. Like Brush, I found them thin and soft. I prefer a crisp cotton sheet.

MP, the first time you entered my radar and ticked me off it was in a laundry topic where you said that if we washed our clothing in cold water, the clothes were still dirty. I saw you badgering Chi about her underclothes and laundry practices and it ticked me off again.

I understand that you are something of an expert on laundry, I just don't think that we all need to be told that we aren't clean when we don't do it as you do.

I've never been afraid of my own cooties and I am pretty healthy. I do wash some items in cold water and they look and smell clean.

PK its my opinion that body oils won't be removed using cold water...I never said anyone was not clean. Giving this opinion of mine has never been done in a rude slap in the face way Like the opinions directed at me are.

There are many opinions directed at what I say in very rude ways...I'll not start throwing them out there. Difference is I give an opinion about a subject in a respectful manner. ..unlike opinions directed at me.

It was awhile ago, MP so I don't recall which ones they were now, but they weren't the least expensive ones. I was not impressed with the quality for the price.

Bobbi...the difference is opinions are directed at me in unkind ways. Its often not so much that others are truely giving an opinion on what I say but more a chance to attack me. Differing opinions I don't mind its the often underlying tone or out right blatant comments that are constantly directed at me that I take offense to. I do not see opinions directed at others in quite the same way they are to me. Conversations like this don't even sit well with me. Makes me feel backed into a corner as if someone is just waiting to see when I will post again so it can be picked apart. It also boarders on high school drama. I'm not taking part in it any longer...now sit back and watch what's said...I will now be baited.

OK, back to these linen sheets. I once bought linen sheets from Restoration Hardware. They gave off lint like crazy! Is this a problem with other linen sheets?

sonni1, when I washed those the first time to put them on the bed, I accused one of the children of putting a tissue in the washer. There was a lot of lint.

Sonni. Linen shouldn't give off lint which is one of the many reasons so many like linen kitchen towels. I've read about linty sheets from RH before. I hope you ask for a return. I know quite a few that love the linen from Rough linen....sorry I don't have a link. Linen bedding has made such a big come back. Linen isn't cheap so be careful before buying from someone that the price is too good to pass up. Read the reviews.

I've never ordered from Brooklinen but I know others that love BL which is why I posted the link not because I think they are any good...I don't have an opinion on this company. Actually I don't like linen sheets. I'm a percale fan and there's no way linen and cotton percale weave can be compared. Anyway...no.. linen sheets should not give off lint other than maybe the initial washing that could have some loose threads clinging to the sheet from factory work but this sure doesn't sound like what your describing.

I have had unsatisfactory experiences with both the cotton and linen sheets from Brooklinen. Brooklinen has affiliate cheerleaders proclaiming them to be the best of everything. They haven't been in business long enough to be the best of everything.

MP, they were linen. I use bar towels and flour sacks for dish towels so I'm not familiar with linen kitchen towels. My mother used linen towels and I liked them best once they were worn in I recall.

Speaking of linen dish towels, my friend got me six while on vacation. I found they were not absorbent and used them as a decoration. I prefer cotton ones or whatever from the dollar store.

Ava, I'm not sure why they wernt absorbent. Maybe they were a fake linen or treated with something. Linen is typically very absorbent. I have linen kitchen towels but don't use them daily. I don't have enough to make them my daily driver so I use flour sack towels which are also excellent IMHO and they don't lint. Honestly I have a full load weekly of the flour sacks.

Yes, maybe they were treated. They were stiff.

I never followed MP's threads on washing. I love linen towels and I wear a lot of linen clothes but I would hate linen sheets. I buy Shabby Chic sheets from Target. This is my washing regime. I used very hot water , Tide liquid, a little bleach on white clothes and cold water rinse and always hang my clothes on the line to dry. Never wash with cold water, just rinse. What am I doing wrong?I'm not being snarky. Asking for advice.

Those of you concerned with dust mites ... how do you manage them on your mattress and upholstered furniture? I take it you don't have pets. That would surely be a living nightmare.

CindyMac My son has a severe dust mite allergy so we are mindful of this when making purchases. As for bedding, we use dust mite covers on his mattress and pillows, wash bedding in hottest water. I don't think it is possible to eliminate or avoid all, but we do the best we can, where we can.

Lily your not doing anything wrong. Matter of fact your washing your sheets so perfectly that no one can give you advice. Hot water, top of the line detergent= beautifully clean and lovely sheets. I LOVE Shabby Chic sheets from Target. I have one of their duvet covers that has been washed at least twice weekly for close to 3 years and is still in mint condition. ..did I mention I love Shabby Chic sheets. LOL.

Bobbi its hard to find a modern day washer with a warm rinse. I have warm rinse on my front loader but think it was an engineering mistake but I only use it in the dead of winter when our cold water is frigid...cold water rinsing is fine...I have heard that those with allergies may benefit from warm water rinsing though.

Cindy i have my matteresses incased in a sort of heavy plastic zip on cover with a quilted matteress cover over it than of course a sheet. I do have a pet..LOL. Little Lil a tiny dog. Shes clean, low shedding but still a dog although she doesn't know that. She sleeps with me. At the bottom of my bed I spread out a twin size flat sheet over top my bedding that she lays on..I have a small child sized poly filled comforter that I made duvet covers for which she cover with. Her duvet cover is changed every two days and the comforter washed at least weekly. My bedding is changed way to often LOL...I'm a bit OCD when it comes to my bedding.

I have noticed many bloggers singing the praises of Brooklinen from time to time. Of course, they all get theirs for free in exchange for an “honest review.”

I have found that if I wash our sheets in hot water, they tend to shrink. It takes only a few washings before they no longer fit our mattress.

MP, glad that got straightened out. A valuable lesson, I learned long ago is to let people resolve their differences. It is when people jump in and choose sides that complicates the issue.
