A few photos from the San Gabriel Winter Show
Comments (17)T, Good eye, that is wire. Aloinopsis is slow but even slower with bonsai treatment. Purchased it about 1yrs ago in a 2in pot and gradually starting exposing more of the roots, every other year a little more. It stays out in the weather year round, gets exposed to 30deg temps(some times lower), pouring rain and hat full sun. Looks sad frequently but comes back every year. I think it the bonsai container and lack of organic matter in the soil that keep it from rotting in the winter. My Boophane stays out all year as well. The Conophytum collection is Larry Grammer's and the pots are from an artist in Tuscon. An elderly woman that only makes a few pots every year. Being in short supply they always sell out. My plants are the Adromischiscus, Pelargonium, Othonnas and Aloinopsis...See MoreA few photos from the garden this evening.
Comments (17)Don: I was kind of impressed those big blue leaves too and am just not feeling like ripping them out. Maybe I will just enjoy them this season and see what happens next year. If they don't get the burn, I might just let them take right over (I have two other Francis Williams but this is my biggest by far) Pat: I don't even remember buying GE and had to have it identified by hosta 'experts'. I think I bought something else but really got GE. I actually like it better when the yellow centers fade to cream. Last year I moved it over just a little and it rewarded me by refusing to sent up scapes. I hope I am forgiven this year and get some flowers. Is it worth one more try? Vanessa: That is so cool that your parents grow hosta too. 150-200 is quite a collection. I imagine they must have a good sized property. And if you don't divide, then they must be a good size too! Jo: I will have to watch my blue leaves for the sunburn. Interesting that you still get a little even with the gold sport. I love it when they sport. My first and only sport was Tokudama Flavocircinalis that sported and gave me Golden Bullion. It is quite a slow grower too and I thought I had lost it this year but after digging around in the soil after every other hosta was up, I found leaves an inch down in the soil. I quickly dug it up and repositioned it with the crown level with the soil line. I wonder if it would have made it up if I hadn't poked around. It has just send up a scape so I think all is well. Enjoy this beautiful weather we are having! Barb...See MoreSome photos from the past few days
Comments (14)About the NOID purple: Laura - You are right about the bloom shapes not matching on Lounge Lizard and the NOID. The NOID has very round petals, while Lounge Lizard's are longer and more pointed. I know it's not Lord of Rings because I used to grow that one. Nancykvb - The color is similar to Mary's Baby, but the bloom is 6 inches. Julia - The seller was unable to identify it. Asking him was my first course of action. Out of the dozens of times I have received the wrong plant, I've only had one seller who was able to identify a plant by its photo. I always think that's odd. Several times sellers have replied that they don't have anything that looks like the daylily in my photo. So I'm always left wondering if what I got was a stray seedling....See MorePosting a few photos from yesterday
Comments (13)Wow, they all look good! I hope my baby will look as nice as your Climax one day. I have Irish Luck in a very sunny place and it looks much lighter than yours. But I also like the dark green and if I divide it I will try one piece in the shadow....See MoreSheila z8a Rogue Valley OR
