Mine is black. I see no difference in this vehicle than I have in any other colour of vehicle that I've ever owned. BTW, most new cars have AC so even *IF* they are hotter in the summer, roll down a window or turn on the AC. Personally I didn't notice a difference.

Black is not any more difficult to maintain. It does show dirt slightly more. White vehicles can be troublesome because if there is ever a need for it to go to a body shop, white paints are the most difficult to match.

My car is black too. I don't notice any difference in keeping it clean compared to other cars I've owned. They're also not hotter in the summer than any other car I've owned. All cars are hot when you get in after they've been sitting in the sun. Just turn on the AC and it will cool down like any other car.

DH always gets black cars while I've had white, silver, pewter, blue, burgundy etc.

My last 3 cars have been white and my next one will be white too. Simply comparing his black cars and my white cars - his always shows the dust. Oh it looks great when he goes to the car wash but within a few days the road dust is all over his car and it is obvious. My car gets the same dust but it isn't as obvious. I've never had any difficulty having the white paint matched when I've had body work done.

I think you should get which ever color appeals to you.

Used to have a very dark green car and it showed the dirt for sure. Now my car is silver and barely shows the dirt at all. Still, I would not get a silver car again because there are so many silver cars I can't find it in the parking lot. It has black leather seats and they do hold the heat more.

I liked my black explorer, but then I'm not the car/truck washer in the household. DH does not like to keep black clean. I don't know what difference it makes when he washes both vehicles every week anyway ;0) My current car is white (color name is something 'pearl' but it's essentially winter white). I'm considering new this year and would like to go back to black - he's objecting. My last three have had black leather interiors, this is not a warm part of the country.

Black is okay if you usually wash your car at least once a week, or are not sensitive about a dirty car.

Yes. Black is a detailer's nightmare. Black shows swirls, scratches and dings more than any other color. If a black car is dirty, it looks trashy. So, if you buy black, (as I always do), be prepared to wash it often and use a spray and wipe to keep it looking its best.

It's not black but this is my first spring with my new dark blue car.......and it is covered every day with a golden coating of pollen!! Previous two vehicles were both a toffee colored beige and I never noticed the pollen issue previously. Boy, is it noticeable on the navy blue!!

We own two black trucks. We like black better than red or burgundy. The hoods and roofs have oxidized, but it took awhile! My mother used to say black or grey was the color of pavement. She wanted to stand out and be seen to avoid accidents.

I have a black dodge Grand Caravan, love it. My last 2 vehicles were red and before that green, all Grand Caravans. Will be replacing my black one this fall and yep, it will be a Grand Caravan, unless we find a Pacifica I like. As for dusty, yes, but I don't live on a dirt road. As for being too warm, I have remote start and just start it up and it's cold when I get in.

Will never have cars with these colors. Beige, white, pearl. JMO.

My son has a black pickup and hates it became it shows everything...same for black floor mats. I have dark red and will go back to white or silver the next time.

I used to have a black vehicle. It was beautiful, but a big mistake. I could not keep it clean looking. I have silver now.

I have a dark gray suv and it shows dirt a lot more than my previous silver car.

Where I live, I've noticed a particularly high percentage of white cars. Maybe 40% or even higher.

Bottom line is, get what ever color you like!

I never thought I would like black but the Equinox I now Have is such a dark grey that at times it looks black. And I am thinking..yes, I would like black. Actually they all show the dirt but I think a dark color looks the best when all shined up!

In 2015 we bought a different car, a black one. That's twice I'll have a black one......first and last.

It's no hotter than any other car, even though it has black leather, sunroof, etc. The windows are tinted nice and dark, so it really keeps the sun out.

We got the car washed this morning and it looks gorgeous, for now.

I had a black blazer, DH a black pickup and our road wasn't yet paved. Yikes! Black seems to show dirt worse than any other color.

For all the reasons others have mentioned (shows dirt more than lighter colors, scratches from waxing and washing and also dings, and yes, hotter in the summer time), plus:

The show stopper for me - black cars are less visible to other drivers and so arguably may be less safe. A light or brightly colored car is more easily seen and attracts the eye when moving. I've witnessed more than a few incidents on streets and in parking lots with very dark cars where the reduced contrast from its surroundings seemed to play a role.

I never thought I would have a black vehicle, took my Sequioa in for its first oil change. Drove out with my favorite Highlander Hybrid. The last year's model, got a great deal! I had a Highlander previously, loved it. I never notice the color when I am in it!

My last 5 cars have been black. I like black cars. Yes, up close they show dirt more, but from a distance, they look just fine. In the winter, I don't wash mine that often but I do try to have it washed every 2-3 weeks in the summer and fall when there is less rain to ruin a new wash job.

You know those people that love washing their cars and would do it daily? Black is perfect for them. Black cars do appeal to me when clean and shiny.

If you live (like I do) in an area that gets snow and fog you may want to keep away from light colors, especially white.

Own 2 vehicles, one black and One white. See no diff. In heat or how much dirt they show. If I don’t wash, both colors will show and it will look ugly. Note to self: wash cars now!

I think cloth upholstery is more comfortable than leather or vinyl in cold or hot.

Im ready for RED upholstery to come back. So cool, black or white car with red interior.

I have a black vehicle. I love it after it has been detailed which I have done every other month, otherwise it always looks dirty.

My all time favorite car was a black, Olds cutlass salon that I got new in 1976. It had a gold pin stripe and tan interior. It was hard to keep clean but beautiful when it was. Since then, most of my cars have been silver and I had a silver and blue El Camino, and my last truck, before the flood, was white, but now I have sort of a gold beige truck. I used to get a new Cutlass every other year, and I was really picky about the color, and I would go to all the dealerships around to find the one I liked. I honestly can't remember what I was so picky about. Now I don't really care what color my vehicles are. Just so long as they run.

LOL!! My previous vehicle - a 'blond' colored Explorer - only got washed once in the 5 plus years I owned it! Too much driving on muddy dirt roads out in the country to keep clean and no garage or carport anyway.......I would have had to have it in the car wash weekly and just no time or $$ to maintain that level of cleanliness :-) My cars are primarily rugged and dependable transportation first.....all other considerations are secondary.

My job has a company that comes and details and waxes our cars (3 total employees) every other month. I LOVE this perk. I do have to drive clients sometimes and it is nice to have a clean car.

Our current car is officially 'Platinum'. We've had one black car -- hard to keep clean. I remember having BRG, Healey Blue, Dark Red, and one that DH called silver and I called metallic green. We've had one white car -- that and silver can go longer between washings.

There are more light colored cars -- and building roofs -- in warm climates. Why waste extra money on air conditioning?

I think a black car may once have denoted wealth, probably *because* it showed dirt. The owner would need to employ a chauffeur to keep it shiny.

Hearses are black. (I've mistaken some current SUVs *for* hearses when they are black.)

My Mazda was blue ... my Cobalt orange ... recommended by my auto bodyman friend.

Son's van that I'm driving now is silver.

They were all O.K.

Black is hard to see at night.

The official name of the color of my car is Fire Agate Pearl. As the salesman said, it's like rootbeer brown. It is gorgeous in the sun.

The color of the leather interior is Parchment. My car has remote start, as well as heated and ventilated seats, so on the hot days of Summer I can start the car and have the air conditioning going (and the ventilated seats cooling); and in the cold Winter I can have the have the heater and heated seats going, so the car is always comfortable when I get in it.

We had a black car one time. Never again. We have had dark green, deep blue, light blue, medium blue, maroon, yellow, blue and white and silver/gray.

Hands down for us as far as hiding dirt, the silver.

Another vote for silver and lighter shades to hide dirt and also to be cooler in the summer.

albert -- Yes, the interior of any black 'container' (car, bag, box, etc.) does absorb heat faster in the sun. Some sun reflects off a lighter color.

I'm am so terribly sorry, Elmer, that I wasn't completely specific. My car is kept in one bay of our 3-car garage, so getting into it here at home, no matter the weather, is always pleasant. However, depending on where I go, I cannot always find a shady spot to park on hot days (or a sunny spot on cold days), so the remote start and ventilated/heated seats are wonderful. My car also has a power rear window sunshade (in addition to tinted windows), so that helps to keep heat out, too.

My current car is a charcoal grey metallic. It replaced a red car that got hit because an old lady (85) didn't "see" it when she was backing out of a parking place. That replace a silver Mercedes that was hit three times (two rear-end collisions, one t-bone) because people "didn't see it."

Our bright yellow MGB hasn't been hit - it's soooo visible. :)

I love my charcoal grey car (I posted a pic of it recently, in another thread). It doesn't "show dirt" unless someone "disturbs" the dust or dirt. lol

I do have my car washed every week, though. Interior is done every-other week. There's a mobile car service that comes to my office park. I gladly hand them my $$$ to keep it nice. :)

I seek out the shady spots (in the summer) at work, and remote start is an amazing invention on the cold/hot days when I'm leaving work. :)

I think where you live in the inland Central Valley area is much hotter in the summer and a bit colder in the winter than where I am and so the features you describe could be more useful. It doesn't matter, if you're happy with what you have, that's what's important.

The phrase "hot car on a hot day" triggers memories that aren't current but rather from my childhood and teenage driving years. Air conditioning wasn't common then and a hot car stayed hot. I can't imagine how it must have been in the parts of the US that are much hotter and uncomfortable in the summer than where I was living.

These days, all cars have AC and for me, driving a few blocks with the windows down to get the hot air out and get the AC running seems to work fast enough. Though not in my wife's Toyota. As with other Japanese cars she's owned, her current Toyota doesn't seem to have an AC system with as much oomph as the AC systems in German cars I've had over the years.

kathy g, the solution for having a white car is to live somewhere it doesn't snow. There are other benefit too.

I've had one black car... and would never buy another one. They look amazing when they are clean. I currently have a dark grey car and like it. That is as dark as I'll go. It has all black interior which does get very hot. I've owned mostly white colored cars, that is usually my first choice.

My 2 previous cars were black. They really looked sharp after detailing. Problem was they showed everything. My current car is Tungsten Metallic. It shows very little and I go much longer between washings.
