Comments (20)The door frame is steel. The jamb portion is solid, and the corner has a plaster/drywall bead on it, and the part that attaches to the wall is perforated metal. And, they recommend you also tape the joint where the perforated metal joint is over the drywall or plaster board. Then you plaster/spackle up to the bead on the front corner. (face of the wall) The framing underneath is what you would do for any door except you need to cut pockets (deep mortises) in the wood framing for the hidden hinges to fit into. So far so good. Comments (4)Closing the gap would mean the door would not open and shut properly. The astragal is the best solution other than ignoring the gap. If you just moved in ignore it for a week and see if it matters... The convenience of no astragal would win for me...See MoreShould my interior door hinge & door knob metal match my faucet metal?
Comments (6)Personally I prefer polished chrome and polished nickel, but I have traditional tastes. Satin finishes are more modern or contemporary, so it depends on your style. If possible, it's preferred that the finishes in a room coordinate even if they don't match exactly. For example, you can mix finishes, but I'd keep them to two if possible. If you're building a home from the ground up, and have the option of matching the hardware to the fittings, then that probably is the best route. So either all satin nickel, satin chrome, polished nickel or polished chrome. If it's too late to do that then I'd try to at least match the finishes if you can't match the metals. Hope that helps....See Morelyfia
