Raspberry Cane Management

Planted my first raspberry last year - an ever-bearing type. Cut the canes to the ground in winter.

I've chosen 7 or 8 suckers for this year, spaced them out, and taken out the extras, but I'm not sure how to manage each 'site'. They are all producing several stems. Should I cut them off so that I have only one stem in each location? If so, how do I keep them from resprouting - they seem very keen to produce multiple stems!

Thanks for your advice!
